sigh Oh look a fumble.... sigh  oh look another fumble  etc.... THEY GOT TO HANG ON TO THE BALL!!!!!! >:(

For some reason they struggle with a very bad case of fumbleitis at the start of every year....once they find a cure, things should start looking up for the Broncos and hopefully it happens before district play starts!!!

HOLD onto the ball boys and you'll go places!

After watching the 1st half of the video....
GEEEZZZZZ!
Angleton only gets two first downs in the first half, probably has less than 30 yards of total offense, Dayton hands the ball to Angleton twice in the red zone, somehow the Broncos are still tied.
The Dayton offense looked AWEsome in the 1st quarter, then fumbleitis hit.
Defense was on field for most of the 2nd quarter, that led to the breakdown in the 2nd half.
Angleton was the first team to run through the Dayton defense like they did in the 2nd half since we played Livingston in the bi-district round of the playoffs two years ago.
I believe Dayton ran less than 10 offensive plays in the 2nd half and only had two possessions.
After the kick off return to narrow the score to 24-17 there was still 9 minutes left in the game.
Angleton marched down the field and used all the clock up.  Diggs could have scored on the last play but took one step forward then took a knee, class act.
In the end, even though the Broncos are 0 and 2 they are basically healthy, they are playing teams that have more speed than any team we will face in district.  You got to think once district starts the Broncos offense starts putting up half a touchdowns a game against the slower competition.  Don't have the stomach to look at the 2nd half of the video yet.  Should have the game video posted by tonight.

Coaching decision of the night.
3rd quarter.
Dayton stops Angleton the first time they have the ball after giving up one first down.
Angleton lines up to punt on 4th and 5.
The ball is snapped to Diggs who runs left and picks up the first down by half a yard.
The Wildcats then dominate time of possession for the remainder of the game.

There was some very sure tackling going on by the Angleton defenders.  I can't tell you how many times it looked like one of the Dayton runners was about to step through a crack and right past the last defender in Angleton's defense to be off to the races....only to be snatched around the waist and yanked down from the side by inside pursuit that arrived at the last moment possible.

There must have been 4 or 5 runs in the first half that were a half step away from going the distance for a touchdown.
Angleton had "0" pass receptions? How does a team win when the other team gets to stack the box all night long, the stats must be wrong, they had to get Daytons D strung out somehow.

My thoughts from the game yesterday, first of all good sportsmanship from the Dayton it was a good hard fought battle by both teams. It sure did look like i was gonna be leaving at half time due to the fact that Daytons defense came to play some football. The bronco D is gonna be good for the rest of year i dont know if we are gonna face another d like that in the regular season. I was real impressed with ya'll offensive line they arent big but they did a hell of a job.

Angleton came out trying to get quandre to make big plays but maybe Coach Vanover was using that as a decoy cuz after the first couple of possessions he started feeding Ryan Jackson the ball and  he did his thing the whole night.  IMO Angleton has gotten a whole lot better defending the jet sweep and the spread offense. but yet another person stepped up in the cats running game. Little Jimmy Lewis showed Coach V that he wants to get some carries and wouldve had a td if it wasnt for a holding call. The big play of the game was whenever the cats were facing 3rd and 8 with like 4 mins left and Diggs ran right and looked like he was gonna stopped and pushed his way through 2 defenders to set up a 4th and 1 that was then turned into a 1st down

Not complaining or anything but after the clock got under 5 mins that time management just got horrible and prolly cost the cats like 50 secs but oh well officials make mistakes too but other then that the refs called a good game

When we played Angleton, the only pass they completed was a reverse pass.(Thrown by the HB) The QB didn't complete any passes though. (except the pick he threw at the end)

    • REL actually improved this year to 6-4 which was remarkable because like you said, they had a lot of injuries and their bench was thin before that.  It’s crazy how the smallest of the 3 GCCISD High Schools finds a way to at least field a team that can hold their own but you’re right that coaching is one aspect of it.  Not that they’re a top 150 team or even close to it but if they’d lost a couple less guys there’s a real chance they could have beat Texas City and gone to at least the 1st round of playoffs this year which for GCCISD football might as well be State for how hard it is for them.   You’re spot-on about GCM and RSS coaches.  GCM coach is 2-28 over 3 years and RSS coach is 15-45 over 6.  Hard to get kids to participate in what they know from the outset is a losing proposition.  I watched the GCM/NS Game.  I was worried someone would get hurt, felt sick.  All 22 of NS starters are high level D1 Commits, QB is 19 years old, and GCM lined up a bunch of Sophomores against them, kids that aren’t even old enough to drive.     I know GCCISD wouldn’t ever do it but they really ought to stop insisting that the 3 High Schools play each other for their first 2 out of conference games.  At least let GCM out of it.  All 3 schools are in different Classifications so the wins don’t matter except for bragging rights around town and with REL winning both those games every season all it does is kill morale before the first District game is even played.  Let GCM schedule some OOC games on their level like Houston Sterling/Sam Houston/Chavez for their first 3.  That way there’s a good chance even if they lose every District game they could end up 3-7 and if they beat Channelview 4-6.  GCM having to lose to RSS and REL to start their season every year is just a killer.   You want to know why all the talent at EF Green Jr doesn’t show up at GCM?  Because that talent transfers to North Shore after 8th grade is done.  Straight-up.  They don’t care if you know either.  Those kids moms get on Facebook and brag about it.  Of course, most of those kids end up so far back on the depth chart that by Sophomore year they want to transfer back just so they can get to play at all but then you run into the eligibility thing.    Anyway, sorry for the off-topic tangent, this is a BH thread.
    • They are very good. Really good shooting guard that's '6"3. Also have a do it all forward that's '6"5. He does everything for them. Score, rebound, defend. Maybe not as quick overall as those other teams, but I think they will at least make state semifinals.
