TopDawG52 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Thinking about making the drive to catch the game. I heard they are ok. Only thing i know is they played Tulane in there opener losing 27 to 21... Not to bad Also Tulane lost this Week to Ole Miss 27 to 13
YouCanUseaMint Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 SELU is a solid team, but the real question for your game is their QB situation. Can't speak to their stadium and game day atmosphere though - never been.

coachacola Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I heard that their starting QB should be back for the Lamar game, but he probably won't be 100%. It's hard to say how well Lamar will play next week, which should make the whole season that more exciting. Hopefully the fans will keep coming even if they do suffer a bad loss or two. I think going 1-3 to start the season is to be expected, and going 2-2 should be cause for celebration. All the other recent start-ups seem to be playing mostly home games against non-D1 teams their first year.

bigred360 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Yea, SE Louisiana will be a difficult team for Lamar. I think they were picked 3rd in the preseason SLC polls. Just hope we play better versus the Lions than we did against Webber.
77 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Small stadium not much goin on comaprared to McNeese or Lamar (Tailgating). Card fans should show up you could possibly have more fans than they do.
TexasTerror Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I love going to game in Hammond at Strawberry Stadium...Environment has improved over the last few years and the stadium has been upgraded as well (nice press box - good Jambalaya!). I've always thought the folks (from fans to administrators to 'security') in Hammond are the nicest and most pleasurable to be around. No slam on McFolks, who are good and most knowledgeable...
pwdonaldson Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Hello everyone! Can't wait for the game this weekend between Southeastern and Lamar. Nice to have you guys back on the football scene. If you want to chat with some Lion fans before the game, you can head to our board at this site: http://forums.delphiforums.com/southeasternAs for the stadium, game-day atmosphere, and team, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by all. The stadium certainly isn't the largest in the SLC but I think it's a cozy atmosphere and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The pre-game atmosphere is still a work in progress but the tailgating scene is picking up and we're hoping it will continue to pick up with a few winning seasons under our belt. As for the team, most of our fans think this is the best team we've fielded since returning football to Hammond. Lots of high expectations for this season.Again, welcome back to the Southland football scene and hope to see at least two thousand of you guys at the Berry this weekend :)

Lambuth is an NAIA school making the transition to D2. Bill Curry (he's 57-96 without the 3 years at Alabama) can really coach but at least I don't have to his constantly negative color commentary.

I read that their season ticket sales aren't that great, they had a lot of students and walkups for their first game.

Though you guys opened with a lot larger crowd than we did, we went from selling out our stadium with additional temporary bleachers in the first year, to fighting for support underneath the shadow of LSU in the next. You guys don't have UT or A&M right down the road and already seem to have a pretty strong fan base, so hopefully you can keep the strong attendance going. Student engagement and winning early are the keys. A successful transition into SLC could make or break it, especially with many of your fans already talking about FBS. Start losing to the Southeasterns, Nicholls, and Northwesterns, and it becomes harder to say you can compete with teams in the WAC and support of the average fan who don't care about teams in the FCS begins to wane.

But yeah, Lumberton boys are some big contributors for Lamar. Hussey's hard work is paying off, I think he's going to be a stud all 3 years he's there. Beard's knee just can't seem to get healthy, but from how long I've known him.. He won't let anyone take him off the field unless he can't walk anymore. So if he's not out there, it must be bad.

I thought you must live in the area by your posts of pictures of the stadium and you local knowledge of LU. How did I get that confused?
coachacola Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 I'm from mid-county and went to Lamar in the 80s but live in the Austin area now. Since I can't make it down very often I'm always checking out the web for any info I can find on Lamar.
