DpBaseball17 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 any idea on whos filling the coaching position?
B A N K Y Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Does Coach Bridges still coach Softball in Deweyville>?
DP#1FAN Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Yes, He does a great job every year with what he has.(Low numbers)
DpBaseball17 Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 i was told today that Mr. Hayquiest is going to take over he is also the varsity basketball coach.
proudpiratefan Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Does Hayquiest know anything about baseball? He's is a qualified baseball coach. The returning baseball team should be pretty good. But they will need a coach that not only knows the game, but that knows how to coach it as well
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 I heard he doesn't he knows a thing, but that would be typical of their AD to put someone there that doesn't. He is only focuse on football. I do believe the assistant from last year is still there somewhere. Why didn't he get a chance.
proudpiratefan Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 you are right about the assistant, Coach Hallman from last year still being at Deweyville. I'm don't know who the coach will be. But IMO, I do believe the AD is only concerned with football
Bassfisher Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 The "new" AD did hire a good baseball coach, it's not his fault the guy messed up and lost his job. I have to disagree with the FOOTBALL only AD thing. Great guy, keep up the good work coach. Go Pirates!!!
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Well, let me clarify, I was not talking about the original baseball coach. I heard he was a very knowledgable baseball guy. I was referring to the possible new choice. I just think that if you have someone with baseball experience already on your staff, it would be a good thing, for the kids sake, to let him have it. Especially, if you are going to hire from within.
proudpiratefan Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 IMO Coach Bickham is a good football coach, but there is more to being an AD than coaching football. AD should equally support ALL sports, be it boys or girls. Some of the decisions that he has made makes me wonder how much he is concerned with other sports at our school. He should not only care about the sports but also about each athelte. Football is not the only sport. He cares more about winning than he does the kids. I also don't understand how come he wouldn't let the varsity football players donate blood when the school had their annual blood drive. No it wasn't on a game day either. If he is such a great AD how come he didn't bother to go to the hospital after the game that the freshman player got his leg broke in? He played him in most of the varsity scrimmage game, but yet he didn't care enough to go to Orange to the hospital. An AD should care about the kids not just the outcome of the game
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 I do give the AD credit for being a good football coach. Hats off to him for having a great season so far. However, I do agree that football seems to be more of his concern and according to you he only cares about the outcome of games. That is sad to think he won't even go to the hospital to see one of his players that was injured in a game. Did any of the coaches go to the hospital?
deweyfan Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 YES, Coach Hallman,( who is a middle school coach) He doesn't coach high school football but he cares about all the kids that comes thru his classroom no matter what grade they are in. He is a standup guy. and the high school principal, Mr. Sessions.
THEMAN Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Its a sad situation there in Deweyville and not sure who to blame but i do know that problems tend to dissappear when a team is winning or at least it seems that way. When the yound man hurt his leg I did hear that the head man didnt go to see him but that tons of other people did including coaches from the past. From the people i have talked to though the AD is a stand up guy I think he is just not used to all of this. By the way good luck to the rest of deweyville athletics.
DP#1FAN Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Whoever the AD gets I'm sure he will support all sports and support the AD. I do not think he will get someone that would stab him in the back the 1st chance he got. Truth hurts! This topic will not trun into coach bashing!
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Whoever the AD gets I'm sure he will support all sports and support the AD. I do not think he will get someone that would stab him in the back the 1st chance he got. Truth hurts! This topic will not trun into coach bashing! Looks to me like you are doing some coach bashing yourself their. DP#1Fan. Seems like you have some hard feelings toward someone.
DP#1FAN Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 No bashing I just think that coaches all work hard at the jobs they have. I respect them and think we should not bash them over a personal grip. JMO
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Nice recovery there DP#1Fan. They way you talked, you have beef with one or more of the Deweyville coaches. Any way, if Mr. Hayquist is as qualified as SETSportsFan says he is, then good luck to him and his impending season. Hope he will really do for the kids and not be a warm body.
DP#1FAN Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 I do not have a problem with any of our coaches. Anything other than that said is just trying to stir stuff up. Maybe we can go back to our pm talk? Nothing but love for the Pirates and the Coaches!!!!!!
fanoftheotherpirates Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Well I don't know who you are talking to or about, but I have never pm you. Nor do I know any of your coaches, except your wonderful AD, since he was a former employee of Vidor(theotherpirates). Any way, Good luck to Deweyville athletes, hope everything gets worked out, especially for their sake.
B A N K Y Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Will The Pirates be playing at the new school (did they build a baseball field over there) or will they be playing at the old school?
rhino1877 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 As of right now the new field is not ready.
piratesportsmom Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 At the rate they are going, they won't get to play on the new field this year. How sad is that......they broke ground on the new high school 3 1/2 yrs ago and we still have no football or baseball field ready. I hate it for the kids who are Seniors....they have been waiting to play on a new field and probably won't get too. Same with the football field.....the kids have been told more than once this year that the "next home game" will be at our new field.....and where are they? At the old field. Maybe it will be finished by the time our middle schoolers get there! As for all the talk about the AD.....I have a few comments there also. I agree with the others who say he is only concerned with football because he is......and not all football, VARSITY football. Our JV team has done well, yet they never get recognition. Last year, they were undefeated going into their last game (against Newton) and he didn't even know! Why you ask? Because he never went to the games. These kids work just as hard as the Varsity team and deserve to be recognized. The same with the other sports programs, all of these kids work hard and the AD should support all sports, whether it's volleyball, basketball, track or powerlifting. And until he does support the other sports, our athletic program will continue to decline.
B A N K Y Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 That sucks that the field is not going to be ready. Will the new field have lights (when it is finished)?
piratesportsmom Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 From what I hear, they will have lights at the new field. Which will be great....those 4pm games are hard to get to for working parents. Just haven't heard if they will be able to play at the new field this year or not. Waiting for it to become a reality!
