BucketSitR Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Even though he was a basketball Coach i thought that i would post this here.JH "Jack" Whitton past this week and will also be buried Wed morning.Coach Whitton Record was 512 - 175 in Twenty Years4 State Basketball ChampionshipsHuntington Class A state Champs1950, 1960West Sabine Class A State Champs1963, 19652 third Place State Winners 1962 and 1968 (This used to be a full blown Tourney at state.)1 Runner Up to State Champs 1969Coached 7 teams in State PlaySixteen District ChampionshipsWinning Coach of South All Star Team in 1968Elected to the Coaches Hall of Honor and the Texas State Coaches Hall of Fame.Finished his career as 14 yr Principle of West Sabine High School.His legacy will be remembered for decades to come, as the new basketball court being constructed in West Sabine's new high school is being named in his honor.One interesting story between his time in Huntington and West Sabine he was in West Texas at AAA Seminole. He treated every student with grace and caring...Aside from them wins and championships what better legacy is that..
