We knew this was coming! Congrats coach Tidwell. Now the question is how long until he let's Joey take over the basketball head job?

No need to do a national search as Larry Tidwell has all the qualities one would look for in a AD. If you read the article Coach Tidwell will coach the women's basketball team this season and then they will evaluate things at the end of the season.

Here is a quote from Coach Tidwell.

"I will finish this season as head coach then sit down with Dr. Simmons, and he and I will evaluate the situation to see if one position or the other is being hurt by me being responsible for both jobs," said Tidwell. "If this is found to be the case, we'll make any adjustment necessary, [b]but it is my hope that I'll continue to coach[/b].

I am trying to be a realist in this situation, and knowing that my good friends and admirers Westend1st and Puddin Tane will be critical of anything I say, I will offer my thoughts.  Both jobs are [b]FULL TIME[/b] jobs so it will be nearly impossible to give everything that is needed to both.  The only way it works is he will have to have a very strong and competent Assistant AD or his 1st Assisstant Coach has to be very good.  There is too much to be done for 1 man to do both jobs at the level that is needed without very strong assisstants, and even at that he will be divided.  I think Tidwell has great qualities and LU is lucky to have him (a Tubbs hire).  I see him being an asset to LU's growth in Athletics no matter which way this goes.

I read somewhere there was a hiring freeze so I don't think they could have gone outside Lamar to hire an AD, but I could be wrong on that.  Lamar also is saving some money by having Tidwell as the AD since he's not getting a raise and he's still the basketball coach.  He seems to be a go-getter which is what Lamar needs now.  Isn't that part of the reason he replaced Tubbs as AD?
