Ticketed for Success? One of Nation's Fastest Rising Program

Recommended Posts

Interesting... Lamar's early success could put it on the map in due time as well... keep it up Cards!
The Old Dominion University athletic department is buzzing, talking about its second-year football program in pinch-me-please terms. Tickets are selling on Craigslist for $200, eight times face value. A moratorium was placed on students camping out for ducats simply because crowds became too large. Fans watch from a parking garage because they can’t get into 19,782-seat Foreman Field.
So tell me Terror, is ODU playing football in a FBS conference?  I bet if they are not now, they will be talking about and making the move very soon.  Maybe we should sick Puddin on them to damper their spirit!

Worth mentioning that Lamar, UTSA are mentioned in the story... forgot to say that. Sorry folks!

You may note who they hired as their AD recently... a gentleman who knows a thing or two about rising a proud athletic department with basketball success (saw ODU win their first round game this year) to the next level in football. That may tell you something...

And no football school can play FBS in year two. Duh! ;)

Did anyone catch this quote in the article on page 2?
But such early returns are not always the best measure of a football program’s impact. Last year, only two of 125 FCS football-playing schools made a profit on the sport, according to the NCAA.
Looks like more schools make profits at the FBS level than the FCS level.

Coachacola thanks for pointing out that fact but there are some on here that nothing you post or say will change their minds. I understand you have to crawl, walk then run but some don't seem to think Lamar will ever be ready for a FBS conference and I just can't understand that train of thought.

In a way, I'm starting to see UNLV's point of view.

I know I'm a bearkat but I live here so I cruise the board and I have say you guys have run thus should we or shouldn't we argument into the ground its almost nauseating to the point of being semi comical....I bet a full day can't pass without anyone bringing it up..
You are probably correct because I know UNLV will post something as will a few others. Heck, I may find something to post. Sorry, you find it almost nauseating but with all the talk of conference realignment including the SLC I'm sure the folks over at katfans.com will be monitoring the situation too.

Maybe once basketball season arrives we'll have more to talk about. A lot of unknowns with the men's team and our ladies are probably the preseason favorites to win the SLC under the direction of Coach Tidwell. ;D

It comes up on Katfans when something new develops and thats great cause it good to be informed but when it does there isnt page after page of the same argument everytime something about it is posted.  Granted the situation at Lamar is different being a start up...

Some of us are just thrilled to have football back and love the rivalry we have with Sam, and SFA, and McNeese and don't agree with the argument that we'd be better off playing Idaho and Utah State.  That's all.  Others on here think we are too good for the lowly SLC even though SFA beat us McNeese beat us 30-27, SFA beat us 71-3, and SHSU beat us 38-3.  Our performance of late actually indicates we should move down, not up.

Now, would I like to be in the Big 12 or the SEC?  Absolutely!  But we need a reality check.  Let's worry about selling out our stadium and having a little success before we think we are too good for the Southland.

Football is great for the community and the campus.  Quite honestly, after a 21 year absence, I could care less if we play UT or the Sisters of Charity...I'm going to the games and having a good time.  And you won't see mee with a screen name like:  AggiesAreWe or UNLV nor will you see me with Texas Tech logos.  Come to think of it, I'm going to have to come up with a better screen name now.

Sorry, don't agree with the move down since we are a first year started up program. Hopefully you were just being sarcastic. I have waited 21 years for the return of football to Lamar and have no problem playing SHSU, SFA or McNeese. Who stated we'd be better off playing Idaho and Utah State?

Could not agree more but there are things that are happening in college athletics that are out of the hands of Lamar administration.

I too could care less who we play this first year and I am as excited to watch the Langston game as I was the McNeese game. I'll be there tomorrow having a great time win or lose. As for as screen names like AggiesAreWe; his wife is a Lamar alumnus and he has kids attending Lamar. UNLV attended Lamar for a year before transferring and Ruckdad is a Lamar alumnus who got his law degree from Texas Tech.

I am willing to overlook the slam on my Texas Tech logo - since you obviously didn't look just under my screen name and see the big ol' Lamar Alumnus patch.  No one that knows me would ever, or could ever, doubt my allegaince and support for my alma mater.  I bleed Red and White - even if we play Texas Tech or any other program I am a fan of.  I have my season tickets, go to as many games (football, basketball, baseball, etc) as I can living out of town with a young family and support the school financially.

Personally, I didn't care who we played this year either; I was going to the games - but I want what is best for MY university - and I don't see long term future in the Southland Conference.

bigred360 knows me well. ;D

I didn't know that my username on this site had to represent my wife's alma mater.

I am an Aggie, she is a Cardinal.

We did have season tickets to A&M games for 13 years up until 2 years ago. I lost my job and just could not afford to keep them up at the time. Now we have season tickets for Lamar football instead. Have had season tickets to Lamar basketball for the past 10 years now.

I support Lamar University, but I am an Aggie first and foremost.
