Phantom Moderator Problem

The problem with one (or perhaps) more moderators covertly deleting posts and not stepping up to explain why appears to be becoming an increasing problem.  Of course, I know that with ever site there is a moderation log which would tell us all of the action that has been going on, but I also know that it is more of a pain to investigate and find out who the culprit is.

I know that there has been a call down in the mod section for a paring of moderators, but I don't know a real good formula to determine who goes and who stays and quite frankly I like the idea of having a lot of mods because I know that I for one do not get to see all of the posts that are made even though I am on a lot.

An alternative that I have I guess starts with a question to Jordan.  That being is there a way to configure the moderator permissions so as they would not be able to delete posts or remove threads?  This way, all that they would be able to do is lock and move threads and MODIFY POSTS, and if they that, it will identify them at the bottom of the post.

Just a solution, I thought I would throw out

Very good ideas, Todd.

The deleting of these pickem posts is not cool but we need not hasten to believe that this was done purposely. Let's not rule out that the author of said posts did accidently delete or mistakenly not post thinking they have, particularly when some of it was done from a phone. I know Soulja has had problems before with that.

The thing is this, if a mod or admin did delete these posts, do they not know that Jordan can actually check on this? I think most of us know this.

I say that if it turns out that a mod or admin did do this, their status should be revoked.

Yeah, the reason I think the changing the permissions is best is that we really don't change the mods duties.  If they see a post that needs taking down, they modify it and put something like "text deleted for violation of site rules."  If they see a thread that needs to be removed, they can move it to the "deleted threads section " (which they were supposed to be doing in the first place).

And if we do this we may find that the problem is actually gremlins in the phones that cause posts not to be actually posted.  We may also find that this problem is related to another issue that Mike brought up about a month ago:

"Mole among the mods"

I really like the idea of taking away the ability to delete a post and only allowing modifying. This way there is some accountability.

One things for sure though, if we do this, the mods will need to be tougher skinned because members will actually see who took down their posts and I am quite sure they will call them out on it.
