Who do you think calls the best games. I use to like JP White for play by play.
You have got to be kidding???

First of all, JP White was never a PA (public address announcer). He was a radio announcer(play-by-play, and that's being very liberal). Second, JP was not a good play-by-play man. He never could keep up with the game. Basketball was the worse. He stayed 3 to 4 trips up and down the floor behind, consistantly. He was more interested in telling everyone who was attending them game than actually doing the play-by-play. I will admit though, he was one of a kind. First and only person that I know that broadcast a fire live on the radio. He broadcast the Silsbee Automotive fire, even stated during the fire and I quote, "and this fire is brought to you by (insert sponsor)......" If I hadn't been standing next to him, I would have never believed he had said that.

A PA is who you here announcing at football stadiums. As for Silsbee, Billy Barclay is my all-time favorite, but Silsbee has a good one right now in Alan Sanford.

You would be surprised how many people listened to JP White air the football games for Silsbee. I listened to alot of his broadcast for the away games, back when Silsbee a radio station. You are right, he was one of a kind, and still is.

AAW, JP White is what made Tiger sports for me. I went to every Silsbee football game from 1987-93 home and away. We would have the head phones listening to the game in the stands and JP would miss about 3 plays per quarter talking about what he was going to eat on the way home. Classic radio!

Rebel Yeller in Evadale is the best that I've heard in the last few years!

Thanks for the compliments. I do enjoy announcing games and I try to get as many names called during the games as I can. Everyone loves to hear their name or their kids name called out over the PA!

Although my friend over there @ C.E. King does a pretty good job.

Newton had the services of Sam Force Collins for 55 years. He started his 56th this year but only done one game. He said he just felt it was time. He was attentive to both teams on the field and was never a homer in my opinion. He told the story of the game as well as the kids playing the game. His seats are behind me in the reserved seats and he had to hunt for his seat the other night because he had never sat in it. He will be missed by many multiple generations of families that have played at Newton. He called the games for sons, dads, and even I'm sure granddads that have played there.

Love to hear some try to and pronounce the names.
Reller Yeller gets my vote also, one of them that gets ‘em right.
That takes some time and research. A+ for the effort.

Of course sometimes it’s hilarious to hear you guys stubble over them too.  ;D

:D That's cause it doesn't follow any of the Latin "rules" of language. You did great though.

And…. my maiden name is Althauser.
I have been called Outhouser, Alzheimer’s, you name it.
If I got upset anytime anyone mispronounced my name I would be one raging woman!  LOL

    • I too, wish #15 was healthy and playing.  And also another RB (can't recall the #), who went down in the first game of the season. But, some others have stepped up and are hard runners.  I'm really looking forward to watching this game.
    • Still, from what little I saw, it should have been a much closer game.  WOS was missing some fundamentals on defense, and a lack of imaginative play calling on offense.  Just my opinion as an objective observer on Texan Live, which was horrible btw, but that's another story.
    • Either way,one game lead in the series. I rely to much on word of mouth
    • West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield?
    • Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716).  The Tiger defense is solid and very quick.    Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
