AshlyHasBeen Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Non-conference road games - (2) Mississippi State, (2) Akron, Rice, Baylor, HoustonNon-conference home games - (4) North Dakota State, Texas Southern, (2) Cal State-Northridge, San Francisco, New Mexico State, Prairie View A&M, (2) UTPA, Rice, Houston
time2time Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 It's only a 54 game schedule. The NCAA allows for 56 games in the Spring. Since the Cards aren't playing the full allotment, does this mean they played 2 Fall games against outside opponents? The NCAA allows up to 4 Fall games but that total will be deducted from the Spring season allotment. For example, earlier this TX State beat UT in a scrimmage. And if the Cards did play two against outside opponents this Fall, against whom? How did they do? And what does the team look like? Lot of hitters/position players back and couple of starting pitchers.
TexasTerror Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 For comparison's sakes...SHSU home schedule includes - Nebraska, No Colorado, UT-Pan American, Rice, Houston, Michigan, UMass, A&M, BaylorTXST home schedule includes - Nebraska, Missouri State, Akron (3), Rice, Baylor, Houston (3), Missouri, HBU, Prairie View A&M
OldNedDog Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 More importantly, what does baseball25 think of this?
ForeverADog Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 A lot better than last year schedules! But from talking to players we need bullpen help. Offense should be pretty good though.
AshlyHasBeen Posted October 22, 2010 Author Report Posted October 22, 2010 The team is banged up too, a couple weeks ago Coach G asked me to fill in if I had time for practices lol.
Guest baseball25 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 oh yeah I like this schedule alot, I like the tourney in starksville and the Ymbl tourney, and going to play at Baylor I love that too, this is a schedule that Gilligan use to have back about 8 yrs ago, I think this is a good job by Gilligan scheduling games like this and going on the road and playing in good atmospheres, this will prepare there pitching for southland teams playing against teams like this, I give this schedule a B+, I think Coach G, and Rickelson realize they needed a tougher schedule from top to bottom from the schedules they had in previous yrs......GOOD JOB
ForeverADog Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I know Pablo Salinas (3B) and Aaron Buchanan (2B) are currently out.
TexasTerror Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Awkward...You have no OOC games in between your last four SLC series. Hopefully the schedule will keep getting better with the upgrades going on around the Beck.
Guest jhamilton Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 What a joke............. Coach put some real teams on the schedule and maybe that will help get for teams like TCU in the tourn. I am out for the games but really?

[/quote]We have $3.5 million slated for renovation of Vincent-Beck in 2011, $750,000 in 2012 and $500,000 in 2013 so believe me once the Beck is finished it look as nice as the TXST and SHSU complexes.

I think maybe 3 or 4 posters have said something negative about Coach Gilligan and/or the schedules.Do I personally like this years schedule better? Yes, and once the renovations are complete at the Beck you'll see the big-name baseball programs (besides Rice) coming to Beaumont again.
time2time Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Well I found the answer to my own question, it looks like the Cards take on NAIA Houston-Victoria in a Fall action this Saturday."The Lamar baseball team will host Houston-Victoria in a scrimmage at noon Saturday at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Houston-Victoria is coached by former Houston Astros outfielder Terry Puhl. Fans will be admitted for free." - www.lamarcardinals.comThat leaves one other Fall game, does anybody know if the Cards have already had it or will they take on someone later this Fall? (as I said they only scheduled 54 in the Spring - leaving two for the Fall)Will anybody be able to make it? If so, could they give an update/report.
