A regulation baseball game in high school is 7 innings. Team B bats first and let's say scores 3 runs. Team A bats next and scores 0 runs. At that point, the game is NOT over. The two teams alternate at bats(this occurs after you get the other team "out" three times) with neither team scoring any more runs for several innings. Later in the game Team B gets several more hits (what some people call a rally) and score 2 more runs (or points). Team A's coach could/should possibly elect to make a pitching change, that is take out the pitcher of record and insert a new pitcher in that players position. (Maybe a "little lefty" ;) ) That new "little lefty" pitcher then prevents Team B from scoring any more runs by what I would call "shutting them down". However, beacuse of what some would equate to poor coaching, Team A just can not score runs and they end up losing the game. :'(So the moral of this story: You do not have to be the winnig pitcher or starting pitcher to effectively shut down a team.
So in this case he isn't a good enough pitcher to start in that game.... Sounds like a stud to me. He shut the bulldogs down for 2 innings? thats one go around in the lineup. if that. So in that case the pitcher showed new stuff from the past pitcher for 2 innings and the hitters only saw it once. Couldnt adjust but guarantee adjustments for the second at bat against the same pitcher. Like you said it is a 7 inning game and if a pitcher goes 2 innings each game the team wouldnt have enough pitching for the next game. Once he "shuts a team down" for 6 or 7 innings then i will agree with you and call him a good pitcher. Until that happens i dont see it.

By the way...I love your avatar.
Both Righties and Lefties hide the ball very well when you get to a good level of play. Vs. a lefty pitcher the hitter sees the ball coming at them. Lefties usually have a tendency to throw from a 3/4 instead of over the top. Therefore the ball is out away from the right handed batter into an easier sight, therefore, it is easier to see seams, movement, and location of the ball other than looking over his left shoulder at the ball of the righty. In that case it is easier for a righty to hit off a left handed pitcher because they pick up the ball easier. You cant hit what you dont see

Varsity did not require his services. He would not have gotten any innings. Seemed to work out OK for them. Now he has some JV innings under his belt along with playoff experience.
Ok ok i see. so they scratch runs in the first 2 innings. no runs scored for several of innings. Therefore the lefty comes in at the 7th inning and shuts them down for an inning! man 3 batters. big job on a kid to get 3 batters when you are already losing.

The lefty sophmore is going to be tuff. Rupp knows what he is doing.
The best thing about that lefty sophomore is that he has finally decided to focus on baseball. Tremendous upside. He's not going to over-power anyone, but he's fearless and he can flat out pitch.
Nothing better for a righty hitter to swing off a lefty. Easy to see the ball, outside pitches go right into the barrell of the bat, inside pitches go into the body.
Yep. It's that easy.
With practice and training with a good coach it is.
I guess those kids from Nederland were poorly coached and had very little training and practice.
Thats why they won district last year? hahahaLearn the facts.
What are you talking about? Facts? That "little lefty" came in during game two of the playoffs last year and shut the 20-4A district champs down. GCM still lost the game and the series, but I think they got their attention. Why do you think a Nederland fan was the one to bring him up?
If he shut them down why did they lose the game? little bit confused.... I didnt know you could lose the game if the other team scored 0 points?
Well, I'll try and explain it to you. Team A is the home team. Team B is the visiting team.
You do not start a Freshman (who pithched the entire season on JV) in game 2 of a playoff series when you have already lost game 1. Guest Ranger83 Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I'm old. I get confused.I'll get with Rupp and see if he has the "official" scorebook. I know how important it is on SETEX Sports to have your facts straight. Someone would never want to spout off about something like the upside of a sophomore pitcher or .300 hitters or 90 mph pitchers without verifiable proof. Maybe we could have one of the moderators come to Baytown and certify the information as accurate.

I put out the facts on the team on pitching. They have prospects who could get there by the beginning of the season if they work. Which Denny has them doing :D :D
BringinTheHeat Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I have good thoughts for BH this year too, but when you put them on the highest pedistal and whack everyone below, then we open ourselves up wide. Plus, if I remember last year, we did have a pretty good team and so did a few other district teams. I hope Denny does help us out in needed situations and aspects of the game, but give the boys from surrounding areas some credit, I bet they are working just as hard and I know they have some good talent, I've seen it.
WhatHappened? Posted November 22, 2010 Author Report Posted November 22, 2010 There is no doubt that Lee and Crosby will be a good challenge. Great pitching team... But i dont doubt that BH will be able to handle it

Then it's back to earth from there.Gabby is probably the best in the district. Overpowers most teams. Seely is a solid overall pitcher. ++ Breaking ball allows him to dominate weak hitting teams.

BH1998 Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I agree with BringinTheHeat, time will tell and I do not see anybody dominating the district. But it will be like always when a new coach comes in, He is the savior until he sits sombody's kid or somebody is not on varsity that dad thinks they should be. There will be a 4 way battle for district, Lee,BH,GCM and Crosby, not in that order because I could not predict that. Patty, you stated ealier that if you ain't hitting .300 you aint trying. I agree with that in non-district play, you are facing most #3 to #5 pitchers, but in district when you face Leggett, Gabby,Sealy, Chance (GCM), Long and come out with a .300 Avg, you did good. If those four teams all split in district play it would not suprise me. I like the confidence that some bring, but lets just sit and wait before talking too much smack. I do agree that Denny will do wonders for the program, but the kids still have to play and there are a couple of holes to fill with 3rd base, 1st base, 1 or 2 outfield spots and a DH. Returners are Thompson(catcher), Leggett,( SS), Santana (2nd), Bonnin(OF), King(OF), Newcomb (Utility), may be some moving around, but look for these to stay in the lineup. Pitchers- Long,Leggett,Ausbury, will be returning. Look for Woods to help with the pitching, Erwin,Denny,Thames and Beasly to get a position and make a impact, but they are still not proven yet and there may be a suprise or a move in, so you never know how it will play out. I do know with those 6 returners and how they can hit and add those 4 mentioned and knowing how they can hit, it will be a solid line-up. But also know GCM has some serious sticks back as well. My Prediction is BH,LEE,GCM,and Crosby all make the play-offs in any order.
Guest Ranger83 Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 I think you are "on point" with those four choices. Should be a close race that could be decided by the last games of the season:GCM vs LeeBH vs Crosby
