HardHitter Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Heard from a good source that Bevil has been moved to slot receiver for this week.....Awesome ;)

LU1991 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Maybe another play in the playbook. DP should be the starting qb after last week.
puddin tane Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 aint no way, no how that andre bevil will run a route across the middlei figure with the hall kid coming, slot would be the next place for hussey
coachacola Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 According to the Beaumont Enterprise, Prewitt is the starting quarterback now. Woodard is also demoting the team captains and will select new ones each week:http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/woodard_demotes_football_team_captains.html
puddin tane Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 just watched the woodard video on BigRedInsider...he said he liked the way Prewitt played, he knows what bevil can do . sounds like maybe he would play both..
puddin tane Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Changing captainsThe previous captains were quarterback Andre Bevil, wide receiver J.J. Hayes, defensive end Jacody Coleman and linebacker Johnathan Ekpe, all juniors. Last week's captains were Prewitt, center Kyle Gillam, defensive back Branden Thomas and defensive end Jesse Dickson. All are freshmen."You've got to lead by example," Woodard said. "You can't be saying you're going to be on time if you're late. You can't be saying, 'Hustle,' if you're the one dogging. You can't be saying, 'Have a great attitude,' if your attitude is poor."booyah

ForeverADog Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Bevil was bring used as the backup qb and slot receiver so far this week. Splitting reps at practice. Look for him to be used like John Chiles last year at Texas.

hipster Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 But these are our star players!!! lol I just have to believe Woodard has seen this act before from Bevil. Remember when you take over another schools problems (tranfers) you run this risk. Lets go get some freshman athletes take our lumps and be good in 2 years.A quick fix is not the answer for LU. I do not care where the athletes come from as I cannot remember the last time LU signed a big time player from the GT. Lets hope we start getting something better than we have now.

Plus, he was a juco head coach so he had a lot of contacts with other juco coaches.I don't know about this season but in the future I'm sure he will want to recruit more heavily on prep players. As for as Bevil, he has never been in any problems off the field while in HS at WO-S, Navarro or here the pass two years. You might not like how he acts during a game but that is a maturity problem he and Coach Woodard need to address. Am I ready to see Doug Prewitt at QB Saturday? Heck yes, as Andre has 20 TO's with 14 interceptions and 6 fumbles in 7 1/2 games.
coachacola Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I remember Bevil throwing a lot of interceptions during the scrimmages and I thought Bevil was just rusty from not playing for a year. But now that the season is almost over it's probably safe to assume that this problem will not fix itself. I doubt we'll see Bevil back as starting quarterback next year unless he makes some big changes over the offseason.

I would love seeing him go over the middle!
bigred360 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Well, he did a few times on Saturday and made a couple of important 1st downs.
HardHitter Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 Bevil can help at slot but should not play another play at qb at Lamar unless there are injuries....I guess Prewitt has shut up all those naysayers about him and Bevil being the best Lamar has to offer.. ;)
bigred360 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I admit he has proved me wrong and I'm glad he has as we were close at Georgia State and got the victory against SD.I just hope he isn't the QB next year and it has nothing to do with him. I'm just hoping a 3 star dual threat QB decides to come home to Lamar and play. ;)
coachacola Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 And don't forget about Kevin Smith, wasn't he fighting Bevil for the #1 spot before he got injured? But I'm with bigred360, I want to see Johnson in a Lamar uniform.
ForeverADog Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I just hope its still an open competition. If JJ does come I hope he isn't handed the job because of how highly rivals may rank him.
It seems that maybe Bevil was handed the job because of his age (experience) and connections with Woodard. I'm sure Prewitt will only get better, and since Johnson probably won't be working out with a football team in the spring, it may set him back a little bit.

NorthoftheBorder Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 What's the status of Kevin Smith's injury and him being ready for spring?
bigred360 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 North, I don't know but he was in the running for the starting job during fall workouts.
ForeverADog Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 He was throwing Friday after their walk through. That's a good sign.
