Just saw a list of all Houston area kids (boys & girls) from all sports who have signed in the November signing period so far.  Lamar has not signed one kid from Houston for any sport so far.  Saw lots of other SLC schools with Houston area signings.  Would think that LU would work the Houston area hard.  Don't get it why they aren't?

Screw houston.  Although I seriously doubt that we don’t recruit houston.

I think recruiting for Houston could help Lamar as a whole.  There are a number of kids who want to "go away" to school.  If one of there friends is recruited to come to Lamar [b]MAYBE[/b] a couple more will come on their own.  That means staying on campus and helping the college atmosphere.  Houston is a good place to draw students from.  It is far enough away so student feel they have some independence.  And close enough to go home and have mom wash your clothes.  ;D

I believe the signings you saw were from offers made before the football season.  Right now, this period of time is a "quiet" time for recruiters and teams are not supposed to be contacting players unless they are "evaluating".  After Nov 28, you will see a flurry of activity.  I may be mistaken though.

USD write up: Junior running back Chris Ganious (Houston, Texas) notched 91 rushing yards on 23 attempts

Screw houston.  Although I seriously doubt that we don’t recruit houston.

The reality check is that Houston is more than 10 times the size of the Golden Triangle.  Its a numbers game.  They are just going to have more talent in all sports.  Because it is out of town by 1 1/2 hrs it is like going off to school but yet close enough for parents to follow their kids.  It should be the second priority in recruiting behind the GT for every sport.

The other reality check is we aren't the only school in the state.  And, we do recruit houston.  Look at our current football roster.

I'm talking all sports.  Football signing is not till February so the list was for boys & girls baskeball, baseball, volleyball etc.

I just counted, we have 42 Houston/Houston area kids on all of our athletic rosters combined.  And I didn't include Crosby as Houston area.  that would bump it up closer to 50.

Because Woodard is the head coach, and has a big say in who gets recruited. A recruiting coach merely finds the guys, it's up to the head coach to really get them to commit.

Look at recruits who commit to certain assistants (i.e. Charlie Strong at UF), then he turns around and takes the head job at Louisville, and brings a couple of guys along that were close to committing to UF, if not committed.

That may be true, and I wouldn't doubt it one bit, but the head coach has the final say on who gets recruited. I'd find it very hard to believe that a recruiting coordinator is going to get a commit without the coaches approval. I'm sure the coach trusts the RC, but he has the final say.
