Guest Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I wanted to give a little insight to the post that I made about the kid that really earned my respect. I posted the story of #17 from Nederland Black, a kid named Dawson who showed the ultimate form of good sportsmanship two weeks ago during our game against his team. I was checking on one of his injured teammates, and after the player returned to the huddle I felt someone touch my hand. Normally I am thinking one of my kids needs to ask a question or has something to say about the previous play. To my surprise I turned around and there was #17 looking up at me and he said "Hey coach, you guys are doing a great job" I was completely overwhelmed. We were ahead in the game and there we were in the beginning of the 4th quarter with a decent point lead and here this kid is telling me that we are doing a great job. If any of you know me then you know that I am a very emotional coach, and to see this kid show sportsmanship like that, well it made an impact on me! Later that week I made the comment about this kid and was able to chat with his dad about how good of a son he had raised! I asked them if I could meet this young man again since we were going to be in Nederland for the championship.I wanted to tell him face to face how much that meant to me and that he had earned my respect not only as a player but as a respectable young man. To my surprise his Father brought him out there to say hello and I got to introduce myself. I told him how proud I was of him and got a chance to chat for just a few minutes. He was a very nice and respectable young man, as well as his father and afterwards, I stopped our pre game to introduce him to my team. They were glad to meet him and they all shook his hand, I conveyed to them that this kid had shown the ultimate display of sportsmanship and that I wanted them to congratulate him on a great season and to take notes on what we all should remember, and that is fairplay and a love for the game! So great job #17 Mr. Dawson from Nederland Black you did a great job this year, and I am proud of you lil buddy. I hope that you have great Christmas "hint hint to his dad" and a great school year, till next season my friend!!! ;D ;D ;D
