I was curious what some of you guys thought of MMA as a complimentary sport to football.  I can't really see any downside to football players becoming tougher, more agile, and better conditioned.

What do you guys think?  How long until a school has an M.M.A. team?

wont happen schools do not condone fighting and they would have to find an insurance policy to cover that

And wrestling is what exactly.....a heavier form of dancing?

For Example,

There are a lot of different activities kids could be involved in. Some kids take karate after school.  I saw a flier the other day for an mma group that was marketed to high school and college kids. This made me consider the sport of mma and I have yet to decide if mma is a good sport for football players to crosstrain in.

I kind of think it's a good idea though.

I know EVERY Rice football player cross-trains in MMA, they argue that it builds core strength and power far better than weights, because its an impact activity.

THEY DON'T ACTUALLY DO MMA but they cross-train in it's workout style.

Some of the workout routines include.

Sledge hammers a large punching bag.
Forearm strike from an above position on a bag.
Kick Boxing arobic exercises involving high kicks.
Pushing an extremely heavy block weight over, its a leverage technique.
etc.

Everyone switches between activities every 5 mins and it goes in 30 minute sessions.

The WR do the classic Boxer quick bag to develop hand eye coordination and quicker hands.

I don't see MMA as becoming a sanctioned High School sport. As far as wrestling goes, it's greco-roman style so the injuries are minimized about as much as you can for any full contact sport. Not really sure if any high schools in the nation have a boxing program although I think that would be sanctioned before MMA.

It is very debatable that boxong is more dangerous than mma...boxers constantly take hits to the head and are given a 10 count to recoup after taking a blow that would in MMA more than likely stop the fight.
