LamarStatesports Posted November 24, 2010 Report Share Posted November 24, 2010 Lamar State College-Port Arthur remains unbeaten this season after the Seahawks opened Region XIV play Tuesday night in the Carl Parker Center with a 94-83 victory over the previously unbeaten Lon Morris College Bearcats.Going into the game, Lamar State head coach Matt Cross expected a tough game, and he was rightThe Seahawks moved their record to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action after a long game that saw the officials call 67 personal fouls – 31 on the Lamar State and 36 on Lon Morris. Both teams also were whistled for two technical fouls.Sophomore guard Keenen Coleman led the Seahawks with 20 points. Four other Seahawks hit for double figures. Markens Charles, Vonn Jones and Dame Ka each scored 14 points, while Dame Ka had 11.This was Lon Morris’ first loss of the season. The Bearcats drop to 7-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.Lamar State will be back in action next Monday night in the Carl Parker Center for a non-conference tilt with the Texas Riders.The Seahawks return to Region XIV action next Wednesday at San Jacinto College in Pasadena. But if the Seahawks continue to play the way they are now, that should change. I expect a lot of interest to develop as the season progesses.Five Seahawks were ranked nationally going into last night's game against Lon Morris.Sophomore guard Keenen Coleman was No. 7 in the nation in scoring with 25.5 point per game. Freshman forward David Laury was No. 3 in rebounding average, No. 11 in blocked shots and No. 21 in scoring.Sophomore guard Dion Waters was No. 15 in steals.Sophomore guard Vonn Jones was No. 26 in assists.Sophomore center Gordon Ball was No. 36 in rebounding.The Seahawks were 14th in the nation in scoring average with 96.6 points per game.
