fwstangs Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010
I am so glad to have found this thread. The things which are posted here are downright shameful. I do have a vested interest in the Manvel program, but I also have a vocation which advocates fairness amongst all participants in HS sports. The views expressed by some of the players from Manvel however inappropriate at times was certainly provoked. Why are HS players in 2010 still using the N and "coon" words. Someone near and dear to the situation said this occurred most of the game and is still shocked and appalled. As a former US Marine, Mason/Shriner, father, etc amongst other things I could not believe this. I fought for everyone-black, white, Asian, Hispanic, all Americans. My childen and others around me do not and are not condonned to use those words towards anyone. And yes I am very much black and from the "hood". However we learn to leave ignorant situations grow up and go on to obtain various academic degrees, etc and be better individuals and give back to our communities and teach others the same. Not only to mention being a Christian. What are you teaching your children about the future? Athletes should show pride in their programs, HS memories, etc, but racism and name-calling is totally inappropriate! Manvel's penalties were mainly a result of "second-hand responses". Luckily the players were able to avert an all-out brawl. I respect those coaches and others who had cooler heads. Good luck to Manvel next week against LaMarque and to PNG next year and beyond. My prayers are with those who think HS sports have become grounds for racial intolerances. Luckily Manvel although not perfect has embraced the true meaning of our "children's futures-which some of us so called adults have left stuck in the past.
I was not at this game. I was at the FW vs Lamarque, Dawon and Manvel games. Manvel's sportsmanship was no different than FW or LaMarque or DAwson. Normal level of hormones in play. I will tell a quick story, but some quick background. My friend was on the officating crew for the Manvel vs PNG game, he is black. I am white. We are very good friends. Now the story - FW has a player who does not seem to realize he has some teamates who will be offended when he uses the N word towards his opponents, his own black and white team mates do not like what he does. Despite teamates, parents(me included) and coaches correcting him , he still does it. I would kick him off the team. But I am not the coach. He gets as many unsportsmanlike penalties as he gets. He is an embarrasement for FW, people walk away from our games if they hear him shocked at FW. He paints our town in a bad light. But the vast majority of our kids are good kids who behave as people of faith should behave, what ever their faith. But how could you know that if you observe some behavior to the contrary. Now my ref friend who worked this game tells me that PNG has a few kids who fit the bill of the FW kid I describe above, as gomavs asserts. They embarrassed PNG with their language. Manvel kids let it get to them and got caught. This does not paint the whole town, but think how those Manvel kids and parents are thinking about PNG now. Think how PNG fans are thinking about MAnvel kids, you saw them act out with physical acts of unsportsmanlike behavior. You could not hear the language, which my friend tells me was appalling. I am not defending either side, but there is a whole lot more to this story than Manvel kids getting late hit penalties, a whole lot more.Use this as a teaching opportunity to kids on both teams. you simply can not react to words and you must police your own. FW is still learning how to do this and it is not easy. I am sorry to hear that folks who were at the game were dissapointed in the sportsmanship, but please use it as a teachable opportunity. This is how we change behavior. I am sorry - but I had to say something. I do not mean to upset either side, but there are two sides. Good luck to all and enjoy the rest of the football season, basketball season, soccer seasons, Band contests, baseball season etc. It will be over for your kids before you know it.
badndn Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010
Manvel puts some of its 3rd and 4th string players in with the score 56-21 midway through the 4th, resulting in a safety, PNG having good field position from the ensuing kick, and converting that to a quick TD. That swung the momentum enough to make the game appear close.
Call up fatmaverick and see if you can get your hands on the video, then you will find out that PNG did not score on the next possesion after the Safety. We threw a pick!!! We scored later after we forced a fumble.Let's move on PNG fans...We had a great season...Our boys aren't perfect...They make mistakes just like the kids from Manvel did...They are 16, 17 & 18 years old...The only thing that bothers me is when I see a kid comit a stupid PF and stay on the field. Any coach worth a poop will take the kid out immediately to get his point across. At least for a few plays. Faircloth did this with Thompson Saturday night and he has done it with both DJ and Doty this season. Manvels coach did it a few times as well with some players. Now Willis' coach seemed to be egging it on!
Cheermom4 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Both teams have things they should be ashamed of but we need to let this go. We lost to the better team, there is always next year. The Indians have nothing to hang their head about this year. They went farther than anyone ever thought they would. I for one am very proud of what they have accomplished this season.
NDNfan91 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I AGREE! Let's quit pointing fingers and MOVE ON! Our kids are not angels and neither were Manvel's! We had some issues with PF's early in the season and Coach Faircloth and his staff jumped on it quick and sent a message that it will not be tolerated and it stopped for the most part, until Saturday night when emotions were running high and it got the best of both teams. Let's celebrate the season we had and look forward to the next. Our program is moving forward every year, last year we were sitting home on Thanksgiving weekend, this year we made it one game further, THAT folks is PROGRESS!! I wish no ill will toward Manvel, and I wish them the best the rest of the season. They are a GREAT football team! I hope they do make it to the BIG DANCE, because that will be two years in a row that we lost out to a team that played for the State Championship, not bad, not bad at all!
biaplayer Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 hey brenhamfan just to let you know the guy that stood up and confronted the jackass making all the comments while the injured mav was on the ground was my friend that rode with us up there, and was a past indian spirit who loves png football just as i do. sometimes you just got to stand up and confront ignorant people like the one that made an ass of himself. I for one know that sometimes one can get carried away and say some dumb crap but im here to tell you it was probably best he didnt come down because it would have been ugly lol. It wouldnt be the first time i that i would have been escorted from a game. PNG Proud Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Since everyone has said the same things over and over and over, I'm going to go ahead and lock this one. No need in dragging this stuff out for another 10 pages.
