RCOLE68 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 This was a great game for the fans ashame someone had to lose. Leroy Dobbins had 216 yards rushing 1 TD-plus 36yd receiving playing with either a broken or fractured left hand/finger and sat out the whole 3 quarter. Montgomery defense came up big when they had to on key stops and when the game was on the line, Dawson knew Dobbins was coming and they could not stop him, even hurt. All I can say to the college teams not recruiting this kid they are idiots. HE IS FOR REAL. PERIOD. Congrats to Pearland Dawson for a good season and they have a very good team.
mfbarnes52 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 By Keith MacPhersonAssistant Sports Editor | 0 commentsHUMBLE – Leroy Dobbins with a bloody lip and banged up hand slipped by Pearland Dawson defenders on his way to a 13-yard touchdown with 41 seconds remaining to send a sea of purple into a frenzy as the Bears advanced to the Region III-4A finals for the first time in school history.Dobbins’ score capped a five-play, 70-yard drive in which the senior tailback received all of the carries to lift the Bears to a 24-20 win over Dawson in Saturday’s Region III-4A playoff game at a packed Turner Stadium in Humble.“We found something that was working the drive before but we weren’t able to put it in,†Montgomery coach John Bolfing said. “So we decided to stay with it for that final drive until they stopped it and they weren’t able to do so. Our offensive line just took control and Leroy did his thing.â€On the day, Dobbins had 208 yards on 31 carries and his game-winning touchdown despite missing two series in the late part of the third quarter with a hand injury.“Scoring that touchdown was the greatest feeling in the world,†Dobbins said. “I got hit on the hand with a helmet when I was fighting for yards but there wasn’t anything that was going to stop me. This is my senior year and I wanted to get back out there.â€Montgomery (12-1) needed to drive the length of the field after Dawson took the lead on an 18-yard field goal from Rodolpho Rubio with 1:39 remaining. The Eagles opted for the field goal despite being on the Bears 1.“I was a little bit surprised (about the field goal),†Bolfing said. “They were probably thinking they just wanted to get the lead and try to hold us. Lucky for us they weren’t able to do so.â€Dawson (8-5) rattled off 17 unanswered points to begin the second half to take the lead early in the fourth quarter. The Bears finally answered with 4:44 remaining in the game with a 20-yard field goal from Will Fox.The game was reminiscent to last season’s Region III-4A playoff loss with Crosby in which the Bears needed to score with less than a minute left in the game. In that game Montgomery came up short but this time the Bears came through in their final possession.“I told our guys before that last drive that ‘whatever happens you’ve done a great job, you have nothing to hang your heads about,’†Bolfing said. “We feel like we have worked hard and competed all year long and we were happy to be in a situation where we could win the game.â€The first half of the game was highlighted by a series of gutsy calls from the Bears. In Montgomery’s opening drive the Bears converted two fourth downs including a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Bolfing to Devon Gasaway that capped a 15-play, 80-yard drive.“They were very aggressive defensively,†Coach Bolfing said. “We felt like we could move the football on them in short yardage situations so we took our chances.â€In its second possession, Montgomery continued to put the pedal to the medal with a flea flicker that went from Bolfing to Gasaway again but this time for a 55-yard touchdown.Bolfing finished 10 of 17 passing for 126 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while Gasaway had four catches for 75 yards. The Bears’ defense came up with a couple of big stops late in the first half including a goal line stand on their own 3 after Dawson drove 77-yards to try and make it a one score game.Dawson came up short again when trying to score before the half when Taylor Sanderson dropped back in zone coverage and picked off a pass from Eagle quarterback Garry Kimble.“I can’t say enough about our defense,†Coach Bolfing said. “Week after week, these guys come up with plays like that. They have done it all year and they continue to do it. That’s how you win close games like this.â€Kimble was the game’s top passer with 240 yards while going 17 of 32 with two touchdowns and an interception. The first touchdown of the game for Kimble came on a play-action pass in which he found Mike Williams wide open for a 37-yard touchdown. The Eagles got another boost on the ensuing kickoff when Montgomery muffed the kick and a Dawson defensive back Antonio Brown jumped on the loose ball.Rubio would score on a 26-yard field goal seven plays later.Dawson’s final touchdown came on a swing pass from Kimble to Randall Weeks that went 20-yards.“The wheels kind of came off late,†Bolfing said. “We were able to put them back on and score some late ones.â€Sophomore running back James White paced the Eagles running game with 22 carries for 139 yards.Dawson outgained Montgomery in total yards 438-338 – 261 of the Eagles’ yards came in the second half.Tyler Anderson gave the Bears a chance to put the game away early when he sacked Kimble in the first quarter on a third-down play that forced the Eagles to punt but Montgomery gave the ball back six plays later when Max Brown jumped on a Bear fumble. The Bears will next face Friendswood next Saturday at Rice Stadium at 7 p.m. with a spot in the Class 4A state semi-finals on the line.“This is what you work years for,†Coach Bolfing said. “It feels great. We are excited to get one more week to play and who knows what could happen.â€Montgomery 24, Pearland Dawson 20
Cougtalk Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 CONGRATS TO Montgomery keep it rolling you have a good shot at Regional champs.
Guest Cap Rock Brewing Co. Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Dobbins is a savage. And Montgomery has a pretty salty defense. They have one heck of a team.
mfbarnes52 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Montgomery and Dawson left nothing on the field. Dawson was filled with track stars that are good football players as well. They were some kind of fast. The Dawson coach did the smart thing, he had a chip shot field goal with a tie game and 1:40 on the clock left in the game. On three different occasions the Montgomery defense shut out the "Power I' of Dawson, it was forth and goal, he took the three. Montgomery got the ball back on their own 30 and ran Leroy Dobbins down the field 70 yards in less than a minute. Nothing fancy, double tight end formation just hand the ball to Leroy and the O-line made enough daylight, to get in the open, and he shrugged tacklers desperately trying to strip the ball. Touch down the crowd goes wild. They are not fancy, they just execute, Leroy needs six inches of daylight, they gave him a little more than that. Everybody the Bears have faced in the playoffs, with the exception of Huntsville, were always "Bigger, Stronger, and faster" "Gonna send Montgomery home"Well here they go again, got to face almighty Friendswood........
