The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team will be looking to rebound from two straight conference losses Wednesday, when they travel to Baytown for a 7 p.m. game against Region XIV rival Lee College.

After starting the season 8-0, Lamar State lost this past Wednesday at No. 5 San Jacinto College, followed by a loss at home Saturday to Jacksonville College, 81-74.

The Seahawks are 1-2 in conference action going into Wednesday’s game at Lee.

The Runnin’ Rebels (5-6, 0-2) also lost their second straight conference gameat home Saturday to South Zone leader San Jacinto College, 78-75.

Lamar State head coach Matt Cross said the Lee game is a “must-win” for the Seahawks.

“We need to win at Lee so we do not put ourselves in too deep of hole this early in the year,” Cross said. “Our team will be right there in the end of the season, regardless of the outcome Wednesday. But stealing a conference game here and there on the road sure would make things a lot easier.”

Lamar State swept Lee last year, winning by 23 points at home and escaping from Baytown with an 86-80 overtime victory.

“It’s tough to beat Lee in their gym,” Cross said. “We were fortunate to win the overtime game there last year.”

The Seahawks will close out their December schedule with four non-conference home games, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday against the East Texas Flite.

Lamar State will play at 11 a.m. Saturday against Southern Sports Academy, followed by a 7 p.m. games on Monday and Tuesday against the Texas Southern University Basketball Club and New Horizon Prep School.

The Seahawks return to conference action right after the holiday break, traveling to Angelina College in Lufkin on Jan. 5.
