LamarStatesports Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team will wrap up the fall semester with four non-conference home games beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against Southern Sports Academy from Jackson, MS.The Seahawks also will play Southern Sports Academy at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by 7 p.m. games Monday and Tuesday against the Texas Southern University Basketball Club and New Horizon Prep School.Lamar State is 9-2 overall and 2-2 in Region XIV action after defeating conference rival Lee College, 76-64, Wednesday night in Baytown. The loss drops the 5-7 Runnin’ Rebels into the South Zone cellar at 0-3.LSC-PA head coach Matt Cross was pleased with his team’s performance after two straight losses.“I was really proud of our guys to come back and win a road conference game in a convincing manner,†he said. “Since I came to Lamar State, we have not lost to Lee, and our guys just seem to like beating up on our I-10 rival.â€Cross said the Seahawks seem to be adjusting to the pace of the season.“After starting 8-0, it’s been a like a whirlwind for our team,†he said. “We became nationally ranked, lost our first game, lost our first home game and then won our first road game. So, now we should be able to get back on a roll and have the understanding that at any time in this conference if you’re not constantly wanting to improve and preparing to win, then losses can start piling up real fast.â€Cross will use the non-conference games to help his team focus on the beginning of January, when they embark on the 14 remaining conference games leading to the Region XIV post-season tournament, March 3-8“We want to take full advantage of these four games and begin to install and work on some full court defenses will play to use as the season progresses,†he said. Lamar State returns to conference action right after the holiday break, traveling to Angelina College in Lufkin on Jan. 5.
