MEM Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010
One location is ridiculous.Case in point. Last week, Henderson and Tyler Chapel Hill played for the state title of Class 3A DI. Instead of playing at Tyler Rose Stadium, which is only about a 20 minute drive for Henderson fans, in town for CH, both teams must travel over 2 hours to Arlington for the game. I think it's wrong that the UIL has taken the control for playoff site's out of the coaches hands.
Apparently the Henderson coach doesn't share the same sentiments....He stated that he liked the location and the ability for more fans to attend the game...
texaggies07 Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 I think it was great. Those who were not able to make were able to see the game on t.v. For me it was awesome to go to the game, and then come home and be able to see the Trojans on t.v. I hoping I don't have to wait long to see Coldspring on national t.v. again. Without all the games at one place it would not be possible. I remember when I got to play in the Astrodome 14 years ago it was amazing. I know for these kids it had to be just awesome. So I can't complain.

belle-mere Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010
Can't read the article but I believe they should use a 3 year rotation between the Alamodome in San Antonio, Reliant in Houston and Texas in Dallas. All will be in doors so not affected by the weather and in different parts of the state each year.
You got my vote, not that it, by itself, counts for anything, but letting UIL know that there's a lot of support for a rotation might.
WOSgrad Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 The problem with a rotation as, introduced here, would require not only a world class stadium to house the 5A-3A games, but also a second upper class stadium to house the 2A-1A games. While the Metroplex has that and Greater Houston has that, I don't know where you would put the 2A-1A games in San Antonio.

Matthew328 Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Rose Stadium wouldn't have been big enough for Henderson-Chapel Hill, over 20k showed up. Here's a story I wrote today about the success of the single site (FREE)http://theoldcoach.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1167701

tgwilie Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 I see nothing wrong with letting the coaches determine where their teams play. They can bargin between each other whats best for their teams and fans. If weather is a factor so be it that's worked pretty well since the UIL started. It's that way until the SC games and many times the game that determines the best team in the classification is not the SC game
