watash Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 I have heard this referred to as both a game and a scrimmage. Not sure which is correct but it was played under game conditions.Kelly.............1 1 2West Brook....0 1 1Kelly goals: Claire Dykeman(2)Kelly assists: Zuri Prince, Madeline HorningKelly saves:Stephanie O'Neal(4)WB goal: Aaron StrawserWB saves: Stacy NolanGreat match between two of the better local teams. Unfortunately, PNG cancelled the scheduled game with Kelly and can't reschedule so we won't get to see that game.
;D per UIL rules, games cannot start until the 13th so all public school games do not count in the W-L-T department except for the parents. I guess for Kelly, it may, since they're already halfway through the season and I didn't see any of Kelly's key players get subbed out ;) BTW, WB's goal was by Rachel Babin from an Aaron Strawser assist. Stacey Dolan played the whole game on goal.

rip2506 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 I will say it hear now... pre-season for some and I will say it it in March late season for some. Kelly's Women's program in 2010/11 is still the team to beat.... Next year could be different... But Afshar, Horning, Dykeman, Long and Prince make the difference. Not to mention a new cast of freshman and sophomores that add the necessary depth. Bring It!!!!!!Great Goal from Strawser to Babin.... well executed cross and finish! I have to give a lot of credit to Kelly's Midfield ( play from Dykeman, Afshar and Helen Gambraugh) that kept that from being an on going occurrence.. WestBrook has a good team. Kelly's top 4 or 5 or just better. Strawser is definately in that conversation no doubt and Stacey did an awesome job.Statistically shots on goal were weighted in Kelly's favor. Near misses that should have been goals... Yasmine Afshar at point blank range does not miss very often and Prince's shake and bake rocket from 18 could have easily made it 3 or 4 to to 1... Kelly defenders stopped two that should have been net for the Brook. A ball that beat the keeper that should have brought it to 2-2 and the last second break away. But that's would good teams do. Newbie you were at the game or am I dreaming?
watash Posted January 7, 2011 Author Report Posted January 7, 2011 The original post should have indicated that I had WB's Dolan for 5 saves. Feel free to throw your # or view on that Newbie if it differs. Certainly didnt mean to slight our friend Rachal. It was a beautiful goal. Big advantage to Kelly playing a mid-season scrimmage over a team taking the field for the first time. Kelly was missing 4 yr starter Teilor Long and 3 yr starter Lauren Zeto due to injuies which may have affected substitution patterns. Last year''s starter Anna Katherine Weid has been out all year due to a knee injury suffered in the Spring. I show 17 players for Kelly entered the game including 2 different goalies. It would be logical to expect a 5A school with 2000+ enrollment to have a deeper roster.I have every confidence that WB will win its district and advance to the playoffs; a very good team and we wish them nothing but the best.
