Guest Twig
Of course you don't like HJ. They have done more in the last 5 years than your programs history!!! Jealousy is an ugly thing!!!! LMAO!!!The fans are what make it so great to play at HJ. They bleed hawk blood and see nothing else!!!
stevenash
Great team, great Coach, often times lousy fans with very misplaced emotions. Sure they show up and cheer/ridicule the opposing team, but as far as they are concerned no one else in the state of Texas plays basketball.
You are so right. Whatever gave the HJ fans the right to believe that they have a good team? Whatever gave them the right to defend the team they support against ridicule from others? Why should they believe that their team is competitive when "experts" have already informed them they have no chance? Don't they understand that , to respond to criticism (possibly unwarranted) is inappropriate and unfair and gives the appearance that they think HJ is the only basketball program in the state? Yes, there is no place for the misplaced emotions you so aptly described - especially when they are displayed only by HJ supporters while others display,( via non inflammatory commentary such as "I am an HJ hater" or " I will stop hating HJ if they beat Silsbee"), the purest form of unbiased and objective commentary. I don't know about you, but I am getting pretty tired of talking to HJ fans and hearing every one of them declare that no one else in the state of Texas plays basketball. I think the solution to all of this is to belittle those fans and their team until they realize that their conduct/ behavior ( unlike any fans from any other teams) will not be tolerated. They need to learn that they don't know much about basketball and they should listen to those who do and they should never respond, in kind, to those who question them. FanintheStands
Guys, you might as well accept it.Why do you think the Yankees are loathed by so many.... or the Cowboys...... or the Lakers. Because they win.I went to Buna in the early 80's and played point guard and forward. With 7 players suiting out, we could beat every team in our district.... literally run them into the ground. Well, that is every team but Hardin Jefferson. We'd hang for 3 quarters only to watch them kill us in the 4th when our legs ran out of gas.For that reason I hated Hardin Jefferson. Oh, I liked the players (Martel, Hart, Batiste, Carrier, etc.), but I couldn't stand the basketball team. I still get that bad feeling of dread when I see the red and blue run the floor today (their style has not changed since Breithhaupt (?) coached them 87 years ago!).So I understand why there are people who can't stand the program. At least Bluedove is honest about it - he's envious. ;)But on the flip side of the coin, not every person who roots for the other team can automatically be labeled an "HJ hater". CThoops
The people on this board arent really bad, but they have their moments.. My hate comes from other fans not on this board (people that I have chatted with in person, not from behind a computer ;) ) Pride is one thing, and I understand that.. But "assuming" that it is the "HJ way" to be automatically placed among the elite, and to think the team deserves to always go to the tournament is what I dont like.. HJ's varsity this year isnt a great team.. Thats the point I have made.. Numbers dont lie, and HJ has 20+ wins.. which is no joke, and means something is going right over, but I dont like when people assume they are great, especially when they lose to the best teams on their schedule, and beat the ones they should win by 20 or more over.. But, there is one thing on this board that I used to really hate, but now I truely love.. And it SteveNash's "unmatched" use of vocabulary and diction in his responses.. :D

Hmmm...... :-\I don't understand your problem with people "assuming that HJ be placed among the elite". That's called confidence, and lately, that confidence has been well-placed. You're right, number don't lie. HJ was flat against Nederland as well as Central and LCM. That's typical of them, however. They rarely reach their stride until mid to late district. This year seems to be no different.I have seen and respect the points you've made (and they are well-founded), but these points have been made the last several years about HJ and the Hawks have proved to exceed all of these well put thoughts and predictions. After their state championship, HJ was projected to have a rebuilding year. They made it to regional finals and almost beat Silsbee. The following year was supposed to be a rebuilding year. They made it to the state tournament. Last year, was definitely going to be a rebuilding year... They almost brought Silsbee to overtime at the Regional Final. And this year..... this year is absolutely supposed to be a rebuilding year and yet........ well, we'll see! ;)

Give me a couple examples of the "arrogance" or the "assumption" instead of just suggesting it. Your inability to provide these suggests all of your contentions are "just feelings" instead of reality. The Nederland folks might not think HJ has a great team, and that is fine. Are the HJ faithful supposed to come on here and say "we don't have a great team"? I would think the Silsbee team(you know, the one that would mop the floor with HJ) thinks HJ is a fairly competitive team. IF that is the case, what would make your opinion more credible than that of the Silsbee fans, players, or coaches?

Since it was not the HJ faithful on the board that trouble you but rather HJ supporters that you have had personal conversations with, how is it that an individual from Nederland has so many inter actions ( I KNOW you wouldn't draw your conclusion on just one or two conversations with strangers) with HJ people? Do they just walk up to you and say "Our team is great and we enjoy being arrogant and we believe our team is ALWAYS the best"? I know an individual from Nederland who bought a new car and never made the first payment on it and it was quickly picked up by the collection agency. Would it be intelligent of me to draw conclusions on the entire town based on that particular incident? I think not and neither do you. Additionally, for a man who dislikes the "assumptions" of others, I am very surprised you would "assume" that someone is upset. I can't blame you for not liking assumptions. There was once a gentleman on here who "made the assumption" that Silsbee would mop the floor with HJ and the "additional assumption" that WOS athleticism would beat HJ.( oddly enought, making those statements was ok but reminding him that the statements were wrong was considered a reprehensible act) As you have suggested, it is wise not to assume too much. Have apologized to AAW twice in the last week for incorrect assumptions. If you try that, you might also discover it is not as bad as you think it is. If we get brutally honest here, you have two issues with me. 1. You don't like the fact that I question/take issue with your reasoning and ask you why 2. because I am concious of my grammar, you are offended and interpret that as arrogance.(aka- the Great Stevenash) Not much I can do about either,(can't and won't change my communication methods to please you) but rest assured you will ALWAYS hear from me when I think you are unjustifiably critical of the players, parents, and coaches that I support and know far better than you. FanintheStands
Am I the only one that finds it ironic that a Nederland Bulldog fan complains that Hardin Jefferson basketball fans are arrogant and overly confident in their team? I mean this is the same Nederland that has a football fan base that is the envy of the area. Not that I find Nederland Football fans arrogant, but I do find them to be rather boisterous and animated. However, I admire that in a fan base.
