Message Boards are places where any fool can have his say.  Coach Wood has "hung around" Dayton because he is an excellent FB coach.  Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Why is he yelling at coach wood? Because the secondary is out of position. Yeah we can say it is the players but year after year the secondary is the weakest point on our team. That you can not blame on the players. Dayton has had the talent and will continue to have the talent in the secondary, but without a coach to coach this talent we will continue to get exposed. i appreciate what coach wood does off the field but he is not HC material!! Not to knock on any current member of the staff, but the best replacement for Dayton may be an outsider. You all remember when Dayton replaced a solid HC with one of his great Asst's named Larry Sherman? Does not always work out. Let's just see what the search brings.

I've read SETXsports for many years.  As you can see, this is my first post.  Broncos92's negative comments about Coach Wood prompted me to respond.

I respect Broncos92's right to his opinion; however, I do not agree with his opinion and resent the fact that he made these negative statements in a public forum. When I read his post last night, I became angry and defensive.  However, when I found out who Broncos92 was, his statements became laughable. For the readers that aren't from Dayton and don't know Coach Wood or Broncos92 let me just say this....."consider the source".

I'm proud of my fellow Broncos that have postd in defense of Coach Wood.  The statements in his defense are all true.......good man, fair, hard worker, cares about the kids on and off the field, knowledgeable and effective coach, etc. I am a long time Dayton citizen and an avid Bronco fan. I was a Bronco athlete myself many years ago. More recently 2 of my children were multi-sport athletes under the current coaching staff.  

Broncos92 - you say you didn't bash him, but you did.  The comment about the DB's always being Dayton's downfall......really?  I can name quite a few DB's under Wood that have gone on to play at and be successful at the next level.  If you are as knowledgeable as you think you are, you'd know that the DBs are 'on an island'.  Unless you are a line coach or your son plays on the line, the spectators don't know when one of them messes up.  If a pass is caught, batted down, intercepted, etc......EVERYONE see it. With the exception of QB, DB is simply the most visible position.  

The purpose of my post is not to convince you or anyone else that Coach Wood is the man for HC job, it is to simply state that your personal attack on him and his abilities was out of line.

We are very fortunate to have the caliber and quality of coaches that Coach Stewart has put together and groomed.  Coach Stewart is already a legend in many people's eyes and will be missed by the entire community.  I have full confidence that our team will continue to be extremely successful in the future, no matter who is named HC. I guarantee that if it is an assistant that has trained under Jerry Stewart, he will be ready!
