HJ vs. Stafford

Can someone please provide a little background on Stafford?  I spent a couple of elementary school years there but now I'm an old codger and have no idea what they have as far as a basketball program.  If memory serves, Sugar Land Willowridge was the big dog in the area & dominated the sports scene.  Man it sucks to get old & forgetful!!! ;D ;D ;D

19-13 Record. 55 Points a game. 10 assists a game. 24 rebounds a game. Only 2 kids that average in double digits. Lost to Cleveland by 8.

With Cleveland being proposed as a state finalist & Stafford only losing to them by single digits, then HJ has their hands full.  Hopefully the Hawks are able to figure out Stafford & pull out a win.

Stafford made it to the State Semis each of the last two years.  They are 19-13, but that means nothing.  They went 10-0 in district and means they likely played a pretty difficult non-district schedule that I know included Cleveland, LaMarque, Rosenburg Terry (twice) and a few others.

Lost to Cleveland by 8..... LaMarque by 16..... Terry by 19, and 21.

I don't doubt that at all.  I have total faith that HJ's coaches have the players focused on nothing but Stafford.  Just curious what talent Stafford has.

Stafford spent the last two seasons in Region IV and advanced to the state tourney through that weak region. Last time Stafford was in Region III was three years ago and they met up with Silsbee in the 2nd round. Silsbee beat Stafford 85-57.

I see HJ winning this one by 15+.

The head coach was an assistant on that team and one of the assistants was a player.

BMRM, when were you in Stafford?  I lived in Missouri City from 77 - 85 and went to Dulles in Sugar Land.  At the time, Willowridge was a football power with Thurman Thomas.

If you remember them being a basketball power, then you are probably much younger than me (maybe the TJ Ford era?).

Pumper - I actually lived in Missouri City & was there from 1st-4th grades('74-'78 I think) & maybe I confused Willowridge with Dulles.  I wanna say Willowridge was the big dog in football around there @ that time.  I didn't really follow high school basketball then - just college & the NBA.
