Got my tickets for opening day and hope just maybe they can improve over last year. I am high on Joran Lyles the pitcher but still not conviced that Wallace is the answer at first.

I agree with both of you, Wallace is going to be the man at first base. Looks like Bullpen by committee but it seems the bullpen by committee has worked for clubs like the Rays and other teams like that. The key will be for the bats to get going at the start. I am worried about going to Philly though to face the gauntlet of Halladay, Oswalt, Lee, or Hamels (any combo of the 3 is deadly). Fast start is the key though. Hopefully some of the new guys (Barmes and Hall) will play well from the get go.

Our last several years have been pretty tough with good teams to kick off the season.

Brian McTaggart of astros,.com is reporting that Jason Castro (catcher) is out indefinitely with a torn meniscus and is headed back to Houston, likely for surgery.

I don't think he misses a significant portion of the season, but will not be ready for opening day.

  • 4 weeks later...
Everyone begged for a big change to be made, for the team to go younger, etc... Well, it's has happened finally. With that being done, expect some lumps. They could end up making a push this season, but I really look for them to be serious contenders within the next 2 years.

    • Virginia has same day voter registration. A person can literally walk in to the voting location, register and then vote. So they premised that Virginia might be stopping people with a legitimate right to vote is nonsense. From what I gather in the news report, assuming that the ones I have read are correct, the people that were removed, filled out a drivers license registration and marked that they were not an American citizen. Could the person have made a mistake by checking the box incorrectly? Although unlikely it is certainly possible. That same person who was removed can go into the same voting location where he would have voted and again, complete a voter registration and then vote.  That went into the Supreme Court’s decision.  If such a person votes by registering on election day, he fills out a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are not originally counted and or not counted unless needed. For example….  Statewide there are 500 provisional ballots cast. A person wins the election by 4,000 votes. That would be no need to count the provisional ballots as it will not matter. That let’s say there are 5,000 provisional ballots in the state. One candidate wins the election by one 1,500 votes. In that case, the election could definitely swing on those provisional ballots. The state will then investigate each person to make sure they live at the correct address listed, and that they are in American citizen. If these things are correct, the vote will then be counted. Safe Harbor is not untillll…… I think December 17th this year so there will be six weeks to verify the provisional ballots if needed. The purging of the names of people who checked a state form saying that they were not an American citizen, will not stop that same person from voting.
