adminbaberuth Posted February 27, 2011 Author Report Posted February 27, 2011
Not sure how WOS is in the conversation as a top 5 team in the area at this point... Seem to have some talent but it's hard to overlook a rough showing at the Vidor tournament (although they did beat a pretty solid Vidor team). Not worthy of a top 5 consideration at this moment IMO, but they do seem to have some talent and the season is far from over.
Watched them against Nederland and they have some players at WOS. The RF Mitchell was impressive, great lead off hitter with power, took a very good pitcher in Tyler Smith (Nederland) the opposite way for HR.Darnell threw very well for the Stangs that night. The SS was told is a move in from Sulphur, great hands and good arm, anyone know his name?
Hobbs Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 It's way too early. But... for the sake of having fun, I'll post my theoretical top ten, with wins-losses being the last consideration. I'll use pitching depth, returning starters, and quality wins/schedule through one week.1. Nederland 2. PNG3. LCM4. Baytown Lee 5. Crosby6. Livingston 7. GCM8. Jasper9. Vidor10. LumbertonWe'll see how these teams fare this week.
Guest tappedout Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 It's very evident that edog don't know anything about PNG. To say that PNG don't have enough good player's behind Stone is a joke. This may be one of the best hitting team's that PNG has had in a long time. This team is very impressive. The infield is really good. Brevell has this team ready to roll. This team could make a long run in the playoff's.
geedad Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Don't count the Dirty Birds of Lee Highschool in Baytown out,cuz here we come...The Baytown Garry Harrington tournament is gonna tell a lot...
roar! Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 1 png 2 nederland 3 lcm 4 bc 5 jasper gets pretty hard to separate the next five this early
Ricefan Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 seen most all local teams play at least two games with most would consider teams top two pitchers......1. lcm2. png3. silsbee4. nederland5. bc / jasperstone is the real deal , will be difference.
Ftballfan11 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Everyone knows that PNG has Stone, but what most people don't know is that they have pitching depth after that.Alexx Anderson started against Tioga (Louisiana 4a ranked 11 in state in this poll: http://www.eteamz.com/lbca/news/index.cfm?cat=24942 ) in the Sulphur tournament and he gave up 1 run with 10k's in 5 innings because the Indians were up 14-1 the game ended. Knox and Ward have also looked great on the mound.

trueblue75 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 This is just my opinion from what I've seen and read...Nederland (talented players)PNG (talented players and coaching)LCMVIDORWO-S could be sneaky and I wouldn't count them out completely Jasper is creating some buzz for themselves tooDon't anyone gripe me out for not putting "talented players" behind every school name either...It just so happens that I know several of the boys from those particular schools and have seen them play in other venues and know that those programs are mainly running and experiencing success due to their talented athletes!!
geedad Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 So we can honestly say GCM played somebody...Lee blew Dobie out the park and beat Sam Rayburn...All I can say is the Garry Harrington tournament will be fun....

GCM has not played anyone either (with the exception of Kingwood Park). Their problem is that they have not taken care of business defensively. If you score 5 or more runs, you should win.If both teams were undefeated, then we would suffer from the same problem. The only common game opponent: REL beat Rayburn in extra innings, GCM run ruled them.
Critter Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I'm thinking a strength of Schedule would help with rankings this early.... I can't see putting a team in the top 10 if they really haven't been matched up. I'd say we should make a better judgment in a couple of weeks. At least the teams can work out the kinks on Def. and cut down on the errors. That seems to me (From reading) to be the downfall so far this season. JMO
