ForeverADog Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Guarantee you Pil told Coach E that Kelvin had 2 or 3 fouls. He is the best asistant coach anyone could ask for.He will be doing the same thing for Roc at Lamar next year if Roc isn't fired. Pil is a great asset to the team and keeps coach E straight. He will be severely missed. As far as Kilchrist and Jardell go I know Kilchrist first love is basketball. He has a good knowledge of the game. I'm sure he isn't Coach E first choice but not a bad assistant. Ned lost their best assistant when Coach St Pierre moved off this year though.
football04 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Well now I'm confused, do we have a good assistant coach or don't we.
GrayDog Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 We have good assistants... how do you think we made it to Regionals???
cooligan Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 No, our assistant coaches aren't worth a hoot. They had a pathetic record of 57-6 in the JV and fresh ranks. Just terrible. by the way the 4 yr mgr keeps the stats. As thorough as he is, I would be surprised he didn't inform English of the foul count. Some on here are having a little trouble accepting we ran into a very good team and we didn't play our best game last night. Let's not dog our coaches, they probably feel bad enough over the loss.
football04 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Haven't you read the last few posts about our mindless assistants and how our AD doesn't want our other sports to win because he is insecure, that's why Kelvin fouled out the assistant didn't tell Coach E that Kelvin had picked up his second foul because he was stareing into space
Honest Abe Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 The assistant coaches do NOT stare into space, come on now. You are trying to compare them to coach E, and that is just not fair. Coach E is one of very few who dedicates his entire life to the game. Just b/c they don't eat, sleep, drink b-ball 24/7 doesn't mean they don't care. OF COURSE they care, and they know their role on the team. Yes, Pill was a GREAT asset and will be hard to replace. At this point in his life he is more dedicated than the assistant coaches, but he has chose to make Nederland basketball his life too, 24/7. Bottom line is: we did NOT play our best game, and Ball was the better team.
football04 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 That was a shot at bulldogbacker for saying our assistant coach was mindless and stareing into space and another one at you abe for saying our AD was insecure and didn't want any other sports at Nederland to do good, I disagree with both statements, however I do agree we didn't play our best and Ball was better.

Isn't there two assistants, which one are you calling mindless, or is it both?
Did anyone notice there was just ONE assistant coach at the Ball game? The other assistant coach was in Florida at Disney World w/the Nederland drill team....REALLY!?!?!?I blame it all on Coach Neuman not wanting the basketball team (or any other sports program in Ned) to do better than football b/c he is so insecure and threatened by EVERYONE!!! The people of Nederland need to push him out.
Is this true? Did one of our assistants really miss the regional semi-final game?
CThoops Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011
[b]No, our assistant coaches aren't worth a hoot.
With all due respect to the coaches for Nederland, the JV and Freshman didnt exactly have just mediocre talent :D Those squads were solid before handCoach English gave Coach Jardell a list of plays that the JV need to run and what defenses to use when, English really does the coaching. And Gilcrest is a good assistant, and was given the easiest freshman job out thereNone of this however has any relevance for the game against Ball.. They were just better
DogOne Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I'm not trying to make excuses for losing to Ball. Ball was a very good team and there is no shame in losing in the 4th round of the state playoffs. I'm just trying to confirm an earlier post that said one of Nederland's assistant coaches went to Disney World and missed the game. If this is true, it is unbelievable.

Not many peoplein Nederland are very fond of our AD mostly b/c he does what's best for football, not what's best for the overall athletic program. This has been obvious with just about every sport.

If he hasnt noticed, Basketball and Baseball are stating to make big names for themselves around region 3, and thats just the big sports..
football04 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 If you havn't noticed baseball has been making a name for itself since the mid ninety's when they where regular's in the region finals and had state tournament appearances, basketball is starting to because of Coach English who I believe was hired by our current AD. While we may disagree on some of the smaller issues I think our athletic department as a whole is in better shape than most of our district and is in the top tier of the region over all, but nothing is ever perfect and let's be glad Brian English is in charge of our basketball program, I know I am. I also know that our football program was in the toilet when Coach Neumann got here and it is now one of the more respected programs in region 3, as is our AD.

Without him, Nederland would NOT have made the playoffs two years ago, they prob would have finished 3rd/4th last season in district, and prob 3rd this year-IMO. Since he IS the coach, we actually have a chance at district next year too-and that's with 0 returning starters and (most likely) only one senior starting next year. I know Nederland has been successful in baseball, soccer, track as well, but coaches from every sport (boys and girls) have constant issues with our AD. He may be respected in the region (from the outside), but he is a constant thorn in the side for the Nederland faithful. There seems to always be a contraversy, and I always hear people complain about his dictatorship.
Honest Abe Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I just hope coach English sticks around long enough to coach my kid on varsity. 8)I doubt he will go anywhere, but you never know...
FanintheStands Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Well, now I'm confused. Coach Neumann hired Coach English, but he doesn't want him to be successful? That makes no sense. And since he's been around, the baseball team has turned into a powerhouse (how long, btw, has he been AD.... I honestly don't know). And the comment about dictatorship, you will always ruffle feathers when you call the shots. You got to come up with something more solid than "he's raised some hackles because of his dictatorship". I'm sure Patton and Eisenhower managed to piss people off.......
Honest Abe Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Trust me, it's more than just 'a few hackles'. Anyone who works in NISD or knows someone who does, they know exactly what I'm talking about. It's nothing new, this has been going on for years...
forkids Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 With a program as good as Nederlands basketball, we have people whining about the assitant coaching? Give me a break! The same situation happens at all " football " schools. The assistants at PNG are both football coaches but they and Coach Abel do a good job IMO. Heck at PNG the middle school basketball teams don't even get to practice basketball during regular athletics periods due to having off season football workouts. People at Nederland need to consider themselves very fortunate to have Coach English and his program.

English was a hometown kid, lived in Nederland, his wife and mother were employed by NISD, and English was the best young coach in the area. English's success at Vidor and Nederland's complete lack of success in basketball was making Neumann look bad. Everyone knew English wanted to come to Nederland and Neumann finally had to hire him. The Nederland Athletic Dept succeeds in spite of Neumann not because of him.

football04 Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Our athletic program succeeds in spite of Coach Neumann is such BS, you guys sound like a bunch of women pissin and moaning, I'm done with this
cooligan Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Don't let them bother you 04. They're still looking for someone to blame.
