KFDM COOP Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Lady Cards cruises past Houston Jaguars, 81-64 November 6,2006 BEAUMONT, Texas- Behind a double-double by Latoya Carson, the Lamar University women's basketball team posted an 81-64 win over the Houston Jaguars, at the Montagne Center Monday night. After winning both of its exhibition games, Lamar opens the regular season Sunday at 7 p.m. when New Mexico State visits the Montagne Center. The Houston Jaguars opened the second half with the first nine points to take a six point lead 39-33. The Jaguars led 43-37 when the Lady Cardinals began a 20-0 run to take control of the game. Lamar took the lead when Alexis Timpone knocked down a three pointer with 13:45 to play, and never looked back. Carson, senior from Long Beach Miss., scored 22 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. She also added four steals and two assists. Timpone and Brittney Williams each added 15 points. Timpone dished out a game-high six assists. Williams was 6-of-12 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds. Quiana N'Joku scored 10 points and Shaquita Coffey had 11 rebounds off the bench. For the game, Lamar shot 41.0 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from three-point range, and 50 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Cardinals out rebounded Houston 56 to 35 and forced 24 turnovers. Felicia West led Houston with 23 points. Tandi Manini recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Houston shot 36.2 percent from the field, 19.2 percent from three-point range, and 73.9 percent from the free throw line.
