Once upon a time, Lamar basketball had a first round draft choice.  Now living in London, I guess won't be back for any player reunions.  http://www.hoopdreamsacademy.com/profile.htm

Never will forget a well known local sports broadcaster telling me that Tommy Sewell had only a few changes of clothes to his name while at Lamar and when LU would pull up to the Thomas Center in Ruston to play La Tech there would be Karl Malone's brand new Nissan 300Zx parked in front with "Mailman" on the license plates.

I know you were probably in a hurry but it's Tommy Sewell.
Yeah, the funny thing was Goggle found him even though I misspelled his name.  It has been 27 years.

Hmmmmmmmm, would Tommy make a good Lamar MBB coach?
Don't think he graduated.
Is that a requirement to coach? I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure that in order to be the coach at Lamar a person would have to have earned their bachelor's degree.

I think that's usually a preference, not a requirement. There are plenty of professional athletes that don't finish their degrees. If Lebron James decided to coach after his career, do you think Lamar would turn him down because he doesn't have a college degree? Probably not.

Found this after a little searching, not really definitive:

http://blog.al.com/ray-melick/2010/03/does_a_basketball_coach_really.html
He reportedly doesn't have his college degree, but NCAA compliance representatives say they know of no rule that says a college head coach has to have a college degree to get hired - although they all believe it's a very good idea. After all, how are you going to sell "student-athletes'' on getting an education if the head coach doesn't have his degree?
