Tip my hat to the Pirates. Dogs jump out 4-0, but a huge 7 run inning dooms the Dogs. Bubba Maxwell of Vidor had a heck of a game, error free at SS and closed the game for the save.

The kid certainly is a player.

Great job Coach Green and the Vidor Pirates. Admin you  are so right about the Maxwell kid he did a great job at ss and at the plate. It amazes me how the fans of the losing team always come up with excuses like blaming the umps the umps didnt beat the dogs they got out coached, out played and errors beat the dogs. Just give the team that beat you the credit they are due they beat the Dogs fair and square.

Just to make myself clear, when I posted about theumps it was about bad calls on BOTH sides and I even said that when I posted it. I totally agree the dogs lost this one. The pirates scored more runs and that's what it comes down to. Never once did I blame umps for our loss. Just wanted to clear the air from my posts.

This is the worst calling I've ever seen! And I'm talking about calls on both sides!!!

They're HS umps for a reason.. Umps are just like players, the better you are.. The higher level you're at.

I was not at this game or know anything about it but...  your comment is wrong about the better umpire you are the higher level you call. I know plenty of guys that do not have the time to commit to calling college ball but are plenty good enough to do it. If your day job pays you well and all the benefits that go with it, you don't screw that up taking off work to go call college ball. And yes, I have done both but only call high school anymore and it was my choice no one elses.

I know that's the case with some.. A lot of umpires work there way up though. Which again, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

I agree vhs.  NO ONE said anything about Vidor being district champs.  This is ONE game but a game that WE won.  We haven't beat Nederland in 2 years and when we do, all of a sudden we are district champs???  Get over it already!  This game is in the books, Vidor won, Nederland lost!  You guys look to prepare for PNG & we will do the same with Lumberton.

just wanted to say congradulations to coach green and his team on a great game his team played a good game and they did make the plays when they counted Smith did a good job on the mound for the dogs i just think he was left in alittle too long not his fault the dogs have got to stop the errors and their bat are gonna have to stay consistant.

Not bitter at all.... I said BEFORE the game that it didn't mean that much either way for either team, except it was the first game of district...I'm happy for Mojica and Hagler ( only ones I know)...  What I'm more excited about is that it seems like this district is really gonna step it up competitively this year. That is good news for the four teams that do make the playoffs. Records don't make you better, good competition makes you better.....( BTW a wink should clue you in that I meant it in a Humorous way.....)

Does everyone remember the game last year at Vidor?

There was a play at second base that Vidor fans thought was a terrible call. The aftermath of the call was a coach getting ejected, Green getting confined to the dugout, the announcer being bashed by the Nederland fans and the guy working the clock being censored by the district.  Well the tables are turned, the police had to escort the umpires off the field last night because several Nederland fans threading the home plate umpire and a guy who we all know has a player on the Nederland team telling the home plate umpire that he was going to wait for him in the parking lot.

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE OVER HOW SOME OF THE NEDERLAND FAN ACTED LAST NIGHT?
If the Ned fans were mad... I wouldn't know about what? The plate umps strike zone was tight but it was tight for both teams..The only bad calls I saw both went against Vidor....The force out at 2nd early in the game and the foul tip on the 3rd strike that the plate ump didn't here but everyone else did. I did not see any irrate Ned fans after the game.

Then you missed the catcher interference by Vidor's catcher with one of Nederland's biggest bats with 1 out and bases loaded that led to a rally killing double play....should have been batter awarded first, run scores, and all runners advance 1 base......but that's baseball...umpire is going to miss some and this particular plate umpire misses more than some but on both sides...he is a good guy who cares about the kids and the game but age has had an adverse effect on his ability to call....as far as fans go...I didn't hear any threats just typical comments about the plate umpire's calls.....the main complaint from last year was the inappropriateness of comments coming from the announcer not necessarily all Vidor fans.  It was a good game and Vidor won....Still alot of district left to play.
