Before we name his successor on the board, I wish to tip my hat, to really one of a kind.

I agree.

A bit about Coach Hooks.  He graduated from Barbers Hill High School.  He played football at Del Mar Junior College in Corpus Christi and then later at Sam Houston State U.  Soon after he began his coaching career as an assistant at Channelview High School, where he spent 9 years.  He then served as a graduate assistant at Lamar, spent a year as an assistant coach at French High in Beaumont.  He then returned to Lamar as a full assistant under then defensive coordinator, Steve McCarty, where he coached folks such as Larry Neumann and Matt Burnett.

When Coach McCarty took the head coaching job at West Orange-Stark in 1977, Hooks followed him to be his defensive coordinator.  When McCarty resigned in 1980 to take the head coaching job at Alto, he recommended Hooks for the job.  From 1981 until just a few minutes ago, Hooks served at West Orange-Stark as head football coach and athletic director.

Interestingly enough, when first asked by McCarty to leave Lamar and follow him to West Orange-Stark, Hooks declined.

Many of us are thankful that he changed his mind.

Enjoy every bit of your retirement, Coach Hooks. Nobody deserves it more!

Good luck to Coach Hooks. Now to the big question, who will be the replacement? Isn't the heir apparent coaching at LCM? Or am I thinking of the DC?

8) 8) Long time DC Cornel Thompson would be a great fit!!!!!  ;)
[/quote]

True, but the question is whether Thompson will accept the district's early retirement package as well.  I know there was a deadline on accepting that package.  Does anyone know when that deadline is?
