mustang Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Congrats to Coach Hooks. You have paid your dues and have served WOS and the entire area proud. I sincerely hope you enjoy your retirement and spending time with your family. You've earned it! Many a young man have grown into fine citizens under your watch and we thank you for your guidance. You were more than just a football coach. You were/are a life leader. After losing Coach Barbay this past year and now with you retiring, this area will definitely feel the loss of two true giants this next football season. It just won't be the same.
Go-rilla Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Toby Foreman.. Give the hometown boy a shot!! Look what he has done with the Track Program..I'm sure there are a few guys on staff that they dont need to go beggin outsiders.Congrats to Coach Hooks on a legendary career!

They are technically part of my pay. You going to give benefits back to your employer? According to the state, they are personal days.
liltex Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Congrads Coach, great man, mentor, and loved his job.A former BH grad that stuck it out is admirable just because he could have left many times for the $$$$ ;)

Gabe Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 All of us can only dream of having a career in our fields that measured up to what hooks had. Congrats. It was a pleasure getting to spend time with a legend.I can say this, Toby is unlike many others in the fact kids relate to him and they trust him. He knows exactly what to say and when. If chosen, WO-s found their next coach for life.
Huggie Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Admin note: I guess you didn't get the hint when I deleted this slanderous comment the first time around. Warning for violation of rules regarding bashing of coaches.
Huggie Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 I meant it as a compliment. Is there some history that makes my comment bashing the coach? I thought Hooks was great in mentoring the WOS students and bringing out the best in the community - recruiting, leadership. Now can you explain your problem, if you want to do it offline - I'd just like to know.

So for you to come here and say that he was a great recruiter tries to taint his legacy by implying some sort of wrong doing. You know what you were doing. Don't insult me by trying to claim that was meant as a compliment.
Huggie Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Whoa, ok a little sensitive are we. I have nothing but respect for Coach Hooks. He's a proven winner and everyone knows that. Of course high school coaches can't actually recruit because of the school district boundries.
cornhusker Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 They are very sensitve in West Orange. lmao
Huggie Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 The way Coach Hooks handled the team after Reggie's passing and continued the season was a real credit to the coaching profession. You could write a book about it. He gets my vote.

knightrider Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Two coaching legends in Jerry Stewart and Dan Hooks will be greatly missed ,but both have done their jobs and hope for great retirement for both. Good luck on retirement coaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Huggie Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Successful coaches will do what they need to do to win. Who cares if other teams whine about technicalities or so called "improprieties". Thats the oldest show in town. I know several 20-4A teams that would love to trade places and have the recognition for winning and having the state titles Coach Hooks has won. As a coach, as a person, hats off to you Coach Hooks.

Campee Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Coach Hooks, if you were not a WOS fan, he was a coach you loved to hate (in a good way). Enjoy your retirement, S/E Texas football will not be the same.
