And you took that one ridiculous comment from someone who probably knows nothing of the sport as the concensus of this board?

My comment was for whomever it concerned. I'm not sure where you got that I thought it was the concensus of the entire board. It certainly wasn't even implied.

Sure would like to hear some details on why this one was called. The post saying it was called because of lighting was at 9:10. That is way to early to give up on the night. It is leagal to play till midnight I thought. I bet Lumberton's coach was going crazy about being sent home down only 4 runs.

Thunder and lightening is a 30 minute delay, not a rain out.

I have heard a of lightening delay.

I have heard of a rain delay.

I have heard of a rain out.

However, I have never heard of a lightening out.

Or a thunder out.

You simply sit out until you can resume or get rained out.

And I do not think there is a rule that you cannot play after midnight. (except on Saturday night).

Silsbee and Bridge City did just that last night. They went into a lightning delay for 30 minutes in the bottom of the 5th with Silsbee (the home team) leading 6-4 at the time. The resumed play after the 30 minute delay and finished the game, all 7 innings.

I don't understand why this game did not finish.

Maybe if you had said "we were written off by a certain someone" it would not have been taken in that manner. It looked like a blanket statement to me.

Yep, in a game that is called early, for whatever reason, had it been allowed to continue, the team that is behind always stages a comeback and wins. The team in the lead never widens the gap.

Im sure both happen. Im also sure you would have a different opinion had it been your team denied the chance to come back.

a very different opinion. If Lumberton would have been up and game had been called, Nederland fans would have to umpires strung up and been complaining about how much they were wronged.

The umpires are the ones that make the decision to call a game. The rules that are set in place determine if a game is official or not.
Coaches have no input.

We were just getting warmed up......I wish we would've gotten all of our at-bats in......I'd say we were cheated out of at least 5 more runs the way the game was going.......

Of course. If I am the one who comes up short, i always want the extra inning, more time on the clock, etc.....to do something I haven't done all game. It's the mentality and it will never change.

and what makes you think you could do with  6 outs what you hadn't done with 15 outs.....and did ya'll see Dup warming up in our bullpen? Just consider yourself lucky that you didn't have to face him.......

Great point. No one ever comes back in the late innings and wins. NEVER!!!!  ::) ::) ::)

I saw Nederland JV play last year and don't remember seeing the Duplaint (sp??) kid. Was he stuck on the varsity bench behind some of those guys that graduated?

No one said it never happens, but just because the game was called early, does not mean that it would have. Like dawgz said, we were just warming up.

Another great game pitched by Tyler Smith. The kid also has a great bat to go with the great arm. Two for three with a home run. He is the real deal imo.
