KFDM COOP Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Bill Buckner's son signs with Texas AUSTIN, Texas  University of Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido announced the addition of a 10th player to the 2007-08 signing class as Bobby Buckner inked a National Letter of Intent (NLI) late Wednesday. One of the top players in the Northwest, Buckner was selected to play in the 2006 Mariners Cup and was a participant on the Washington Nationals¹ Northwest Area Code Team. Buckner stars as a prep player at Boise (Idaho) High School. Buckner is the second member of the UT recruiting class to boast a former major leaguer as a father. On Wednesday, the Longhorns announced that RHP Chance Ruffin, son of former Longhorn pitching great Bruce Ruffin, had signed a NLI to play for Texas. ³Obviously, Bobby comes from a baseball family,² associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Tommy Harmon said. ³His dad, Bill Buckner, was a long-time major leaguer. His uncle played, also. He¹s somewhat of a baseball field rat. He wants to be at the ballpark all of the time. He can play either second or short and he¹s a switch-hitter.² The Longhorns are expected to add two more players before the early signing period ends on November 15, 2006.
