Guest jhamilton Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 how are the players doing that the rangers traded for Lee last year? Smoke going to be any good or the other ones?
Ty Cobb Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 After 3 games(9 at bats) Justin Smoak is hitting .333, which means he has 3 hits. The loss of Smoak is not a big deal for the RANGERS since Mitch Moreland is playing well. I can't remember the rest of the players that were involved in the trade.
bullets13 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Smoak is going to be a good first baseman, but the rangers had three 1st basemen that were almost identical in Smoak, Moreland, and Davis, all left-handed power hitters, so it was a no-brainer of a trade for them. they gave up a couple of decent, but not top of the line pitching projects in blake blevin and josh lueke, but they have so many good young arms that's not a big deal, and i don't think either has cracked the bigs yet. they also gave up a 2nd baseman prospect who was decent, but not anything special, and i'm assuming kinsler will hold that position for the big club for several years to come, so again no big deal. the rangers also got mark lowe, a solid reliever, although he's coming off a big injury and didn't pitch very well in the pre-season, as well as a couple of million bucks cash. all in all, it was worth it, even for just a 3-month rental, as lee was instrumental in them getting to their first ever world series. i'd say it was a good trade for both teams, as the mariners got a solid 1st basemen and some players who might develop into big league regulars for someone they weren't going to be able to re-sign, and the rangers got a trip to the world series.
