This team is loaded with talent and already has 4 district losses. From what I understand there has been a lot of negative energy running around between player's and coaches as about 4 -5 player's have quit the team. They are in trouble!

Can't believe more than half way through district and PNG is tied for the 4th spot. Still not out of it by a long shot but for a team picked to win district and now fighting just to make the playoffs! Come on Indians and beat the Dogs on Tuesday!

[/quote] The bad thing is that it's not always the kids fault as some people try to make out!!  In the end the players normally are the ones who pay the price, along with teammates morale dropping because their buddies are not in the dugout.  This is not isolated to PNG.  Look around in the area at other "Baseball Schools"! :-X

At some point this needs to be said.  So here goes.  Coaches in this area(not all) need to understand that high school baseball is supposed to be fun.  I know the coaches are under tremendous pressure to win.  Their jobs depend on it.  But, when you look at the number of good players in our area who decide that they no longer want to play baseball, something is wrong.  My advice is probably worthless, but I would tell the coaches who have moral problems to try and find a way to make these years a little more fun.  High school ball just doesn't seem like it's a fun as it was when I played.  JMO

Coaches do more than just coach.  They prepare these kids for life.  Many of these boys have not been discipllined at home leaving the coaches the unenviable task of teaching them life's lessons on the ball field.  I think that the most successful high school ballplayers.....the one's who stick with the program in good times as well as bad, lead the most successful lives after high school.

If a coach tells a player during a game " you are not as good as you think you are" tell me how is this preparing the young man for life? Coaches are not always right ! I am a parent and I would NEVER tell my child that. I realize that coaches are in a position to influence these young men and there are ALOT of good coaches out there doing just that.Not every coach is a good coach in my opinion.

I think you are missing the point.  High school baseball is NOT about the rest of your life.  Most of these kids will say goodbye to baseball the minute they finish their last high school game.  It's a sport.  It's supposed to be fun.   Believe it or not, there is a way to teach baseball without making it a chore.  I understand that it's not little league, but it's still a game after all.

I'm sorry, but all baseball is about fun, but once you get past backyard baseball it's time to start working to make yourself better. If the players don't like the "coaches opinion" suck it up and prove him wrong. And yes this does teach life lessons, just because you don't like the bosses opinion doesn't mean you quit your job. One last thing, would they quit if PNG was winning?

I do agree not all coaches are good coaches, but when is quoting ever the right answer.

I am a HUGE INDIANS BASEBALL FAN ,but I am just that "a fan"....I can not imagine how difficult it would be to quit if I was a player. I am sure that each one struggled with this decision and who knows what all the reason are. As a team the INDIANS will pull together and make it work. I am not one to post on here and I do not intend to get my feathers ruffled . I just try to see things from every view point and sometimes that is not easy.

[/quote] If people are honest, alot of the kids these days are SPOILED. When these kids were little some of them would say and act like they wanted and nobody corrected them.  If a coach didnt rub them on the head and say thats ok when they made errors, parents didnt like the coach.  From birth as a parent you prepare your child for ups and downs in life.  A coach is supposed to work with the talent he is given and try to be competitive.  FAIR AND COMPETITIVE!
