ForeverADog Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Lamar takes game 1 of the series! 5-3 Timely hitting. And Ford pitched well. Tromblee threw 2 1/3 shutout innings to close it out!

ForeverADog Posted May 8, 2011 Author Report Posted May 8, 2011 LU falls again. 4-2. Impressed we only gave up 4 runs...
AshlyHasBeen Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Sad to say but there doesn't look like there's much fight left in them. Really hope I'm wrong.
ForeverADog Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 Lott didn't pitch at all this weekend. Think he could be hurt now.
Guest baseball25 Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Hey Shlykmbt, be honest here do you think its almost time for Coach G to hang it up? The guy used to be a hell of a coach no doubt it and one of the best pitching coaches in the nation but do you think its time?
TradinUp BH Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Conference standings and conference records1. Texas State 20-7 2. Stephen F. Austin 17-10 3. Sam Houston State 16-11 4. Southeastern Louisiana 15-12 5. Texas A&M Corpus Christi 14-13 6. UT Arlington 13-14 7. UTSA 13-14 8. McNeese State 12-15 9. Nicholls State 12-15 10. Lamar 11-16 11. Central Arkansas 10-17 12. Northwestern State 9-18 Doesn't look good for the home team, but with six games left, they might be able to squeeze into the tourney.
coachacola Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011
Doesn't look good for the home team, but with six games left, they might be able to squeeze into the tourney.
I thought the basketball season was already over? Oh wait, this is baseball.... ;D

I hope Tx State rolls through the topurney and then makes a great showing in the NCAA tourney. If LU even gets in the conference tourney, they sure aren't going to luck out like last year.
Guest baseball25 Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Hey kingsnake, cola, and scalpem what are your thoughts on where the baseball program is going???
time2time Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hey cola, kingsnake and scalp'em what are your thoughts or in other words "those who agree with me" what are your thoughts?
Chucky Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Lamar's baseball program is down for only one reason. Pitching injuries have more than taken their toll on this group of kids.
ForeverADog Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 I agree. This team would be one of the 3 best teams in the conference if healthy. Harrington, Dziedzic, Lott, Hamaker, Steward, Roebuck, Salinas, Johnson, and Bunner are all players who have been hurt this season. Majority out for the year. Hard to recover from that. Especially at a mid-major where you won't gave the quality of depth on the roster like a Big 12 school.
Ruckdad Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I agree with him too - It is time for some new direction in the dugout.
time2time Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Ruckdaddy what do you know about baseball? I thought soccer was your sport.
TradinUp BH Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I agree that having the injuries doesn't help, but I watched some of the earlier games in the year, and they didn't impress me. They were an average team, but I don't think they would've been a top 3 team. As a fan, I think it's time for a change, but I imagine there are others that disagree. I appreciate what Gilligan has done for the program, but it's time for new blood. I just didn't see the fire and intensity from this years team like past years teams in the 90's. This seems to be an ongoing issue for the last couple of years. I know Gilligan got them to the regionals last year, but this program has been declining overall.
ForeverADog Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 I just don't know who we would get that is better than Gilligan.
Guest baseball25 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Dallas baptist head coach would be a great hire!!!

ForeverADog Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Louisiana Lafayette is a better program than Lamar. Plus he is established at ULL. No way he would leave for Lamar.

Anybody who knows me - which you apparently do but refuse to identify yourself - knows that I am a baseball guy first and foremost. This program has not been relevant for many years now. Sure we got hot on a three day stretch last year but the team was uncermoniously bounced in two days from the regional. They didn't even look like they belonged. The fact is the rest of the conference is improving while we are stagnant (which really means we are falling back). I thank Coach G for the great work he has done, but would like to see him move on.
