Looks like 3A might get an unwelcomed new adversary

Chris Miller was his name. Kelvin Price was a lineback as well with Miller.

Yes that '98 team had Chris Miller ('6"3 225 lbs) and Kelvin Price ('6"3 235 lbs) at inside linebacker. Miller also played tightend and hauled in a 99 yard TD in the playoffs that year against Carthage. Price also returned an interception in that game against Carthage for a TD. Silsbee defeated Carthage 48-21.

Let me correct myself. Silsbee has not made it to the regional finals since 1998, which is 13 years ago, not decades. ( to be accurate, 1 decade and 3 years ;))

It just so happens that game was a loss to LaMarque by the score of 20-14. LaMarque blocked a field goal attempt and returned it for a TD and then got the benefit of Silsbee fumbling inside the LaMarque 10 yard line twice to stop Silsbee scoring drives (one of those at the Cougar 2 yard line :'()
wasnt that the year Silsbee had that big bruiser of a RB who looked like a lineman but ran like a WR? I forget his name.
No. Silsbee had Quincy Kelly and Mark Farr as their RB's that year, both around 160-170 lbs, but very fast.

Not sure of what "big" runningback you are thinking of. Can't remember any RB at Silsbee weighing over 200 lbs.
dang it, i mis-typed. i meant LB not RB.
I remember who you're talking about. Can't remember hi name, but he transferred from Kountze I believe.
I remember watching the highlights and dude was in every one of them in some capacity.

***off topic question***----> what ever happened to that QB from a few years ago? Last name was Wilson. #11 was his number.
Quincy Wilson played JC ball as a linebacker.

I they dropping those kids that fast the talent is leaving also and the coaching change has been pretty often as well
I agree, they are losing so much talent that they were in the State Championship game in Football and Basketball. I would be willing to bet if the make it to the championship in 4A that they will do fairly well in 3A. Henderson has been the posterchild for mediocrity in 4A and won the Championship in their first year in 3A. Do you think LaMarque may have more talent than Henderson? LM is a perennial power in 4A.

LM is very similar to WOS. Seems that losing kids doesnt change the caliber of football they play. They are also one of those teams that can start out 0-3 and then make a run to state. You never know which LM team will show up. I could be wrong on this, and im sure that Gas or Griff could help, but I think Hooks was trying to schedule a pre season game with LM for a while but never could get it all together. As I see it, they will be in 3A so we probably will meet them sometime in the future. They have always had our number and bounced us from the playoffs when we had some of our all-time best teams. i.e. '93, '95, '97. We did however beat them in 2000 on the road to the state game and also maybe sometime in the '80s?

LM will always have athletes, but their numbers are down... There was a rumor last realignment as well. Splendora has 4A numbers at last count and COULD open a spot in that district.  ???
At last count Huffman had more kids than Splendora, and I think they were about 65 kids below the cut off.  So if anyone moves up I think it would be Huffman, but both could go as well.

For anyone that thinks LM is losing talent and won't impact 3a they are in for a rude awakening.  If LM drops they will dominate region 3 or 4 in both football and basketball.

I would imagine that the realignment will include a new Houston area 3A district. I believe they have been wanting to address the small HISD 4A school issue for a while. Their reason for staying 4A I think was travel expense issues. Since there will be at least 4 or 5 they can proably justify a new district.

Yep, you are correct. The LM coach said they could have dropped last alignment but the travel would have been brutal.

    • That should tell everyone something pretty clearly. Does anyone really think BH is recruiting elementary kids, to get them to transfer in Jr. high? Seriously? Here is the "dirty little secret" about BH: Most people move to the district for a quality living environment to raise their young family, and benefit from the outstanding acedemics at BH. Even If all athlectics suddenly disappeared from BH, people would still want their kids in the district. If thats not enough to convince anyone, and BH really was determined to recruit, first step would be to have open enrollemnt. It is closed.        Yes, I get it, no one ever wants to give BH the benefit of the doubt on anything. Some of the accusations are beyond ridiculous though. This paranoia the BH critics are afflicted with is not just sad, its flat out laughable.
    • Opting is always an option. Are they considering any BC assistants? Highly qualified after that season they put up.
    • Be that as it may, only time will tell. Hide and watch. Don’t be surprised if the next HC hire uses his own recipe. That happens more than not historically. I am not arguing the point that Hooks & CT had a winning combination that could’ve been carried over. I’m saying that finding someone to do that is not going to be as easy as one might think. Tell me again why Saban’s replacement, who even has Saban’s assistance if he wants it, just lost another game to an unranked team and has taken the Tide out of playoff contention? Why wouldn’t he just follow the success of possibly the greatest college football coach ever lived?
    • We've acknowledged having 2 HOF coaches hasn't been like most other schools. So why everyone jumps to the conclusion it wouldn't work here is beyond my comprehension. I see it carry over with these other hires. Gilmer, Aledo, North Shore, Austin Westlake. Next man up that continues the system in place has instant success. Matter fact there was 2 rookie HC that won the state championship the same year we handed over the keys. Same book. Same recipe. Better ingredients.
