Bertrand will still put up big numbers. Real big.

Although Bertrand did have the best offensive line in the district last year, he did earn a whole lot of tough yards. He isn't a burner, but he is tough to tackle 1 on 1. With over 1800 yards last year, i'm sure he'll break the century mark this coming up season. With that said, i don't think he'll break his own personal record but i do think that he should get more credit than what he gets considering PNG's stellar offensive line last year.

First of all I give 1/2 the credit to the O/L for the first 5-10 yards a runner picks up past the line of scrimmage...Open Field Yards (11-plus past the line) and "Highlight Yards" you got to give to the back.

It's tough to pick the top backs because there are so many Variables...like Speed, (40 time.) Burst/Quickness..I mean a guy that is able to get to top-speed in 2 or 3 steps is better than a guy that takes 40 yds.to reach his top speed. Flexibility/body control, running inside, running Outside, receiving, blocking, reading blocks/intuition/vision, protecting the Football..... and even if you do the work to compile and compare all these it can still be a shot in the dark sometimes....So here's my shot  

(1) Bertrand - PNG the workhorse of 20-4A, he stays at my #1 until proven otherwise.
(2) Livingston's backfield - I just can't break these guy's up. (they really have 4 backs QB Collins 97 carries, 957 yards.)
(3) Vidor's 3 backs, I can't break them up either.
(4) Troy Benjamin - Nederland, this kid put up good #s last season.
(5) Alex Sezar - LCM, for a back that had less than 40 touch's he had 8 YPC, I think he'll be LCMs feature back this season.

I don't have any #s on Jacoby Jones - Ozen, but I see he's in some top 5s and he wouldn't be getting talked about if he wasn't a pretty good back. I know I left some out that will be good backs this yr. but the thread stated best 5........Note: these picks are subject to change without prior notice, if necessary...or if I feel like it.  ;) ;)

Sezar ran a 4.40 at a TCU camp and a 4.43 at the A&M camp. Timed by Horned Frog and Aggie coaches. He finished 7th in the state 100 meters as a soph, why would you question his 40 times? Did he just get real fast the last 60 meters or something? :D

look people jacobi jones is a good back he wore jersey number 1 this past year on varsity. the freshman kids that parents kept him off varsity name is chris james. he should be getting alot of the reps by the end of the yr. now yall people must be kidding yall self if yall dont think that central doesnt have a good running back with speed every year. when was the last time that they didnt. who ever it is will make it in the top 5 by the end of the year. i heard they got a transfer back in that also that played for a state championship recently at a lower classification. he can go cause i seen him play in a playoff games against la vega.

Everyone is overlooking Central's running game.  I promise you at the end of the season the Jaguars will have someone in not only the top 5 but top 3 as a running back and I'm not talking about Robert Mitchell the QB... 8)

Yeah I can see where Bertrand only running for 2013 yards was nothing special. Esp when Barbers Hill whole offense only ran for 2267!!!!

Mitchell had 132 carries for 615 yards last yr. no team can afford to think he won't run.   Carter didn't get many touches last year, I look for that to change this yr.
