From the Baytown Sun:

Rayburn 81, Sterling 75 (boys)

Sterling was unable to make plays down the stretch in their season opener against Sam Rayburn in an 81-75 loss. The game was tied late in the fourth quarter but two key three pointers turned a four-point lead into a two-point deficit and Rayburn made the plays to take the win.

“They made the plays down the stretch,†RSS head coach Mark Patton said. “We miscommunicated down the stretch and they made a wide open three. We want to get up and down and score but we don’t want to give up 80. We still have a lot of work to do.â€

Adrian Fontenot led the Rangers with 22 points and eight boards and Derrick Thompson had 17. Cartavious Kincade added 14 for Sterling. On the night RSS saw four players foul out.

“We forced turnovers but we couldn’t convert, “ Patton said. “Rayburn played pretty good down the stretch. Hopefully we will have a good showing this weekend.â€

Sterling will take part in the Pasadena Tournament this weekend opening with San Antonio Warren at 8 a.m. and then facing Pearland at 12:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Dobie.
