Hull-Daisetta from 1935-40 the Bobcats were 62 wins-2 losses.Lost to Humble 13-0 in 1939-lost to French 9-6 in 1940.They scored 1,433 pts and gave up 289.That's a avg. 27 points per game while allowing 4 points per game.WOW in freakin leather helmets-talk about head knocking those dude's were tuff.

Although they were nationally ranked that year, it wasn't No. 1.  They ended up ranked No. 15 by USA Today and No. 9 by ESPN's Scholastic Sports America.  One of the Mustang's victims was another nationally ranked team (at the time they played anyway) in Aldine MacArthur who if I remember correctly was ranked No. 6 in the nation and No.1 in Texas in 5A.

Do keep in mind there was almost no structure regulating who played for HS teams pre-WWII. There are many accounts of 25+ year old guys who would work in the oil fields all day, then suit up for their "school" on Friday nights. Notice the teams: [i]Sour Lake,Pt.Nech,Crosby,Liberty,BH,Dayton,Cleveland,Cedar Bayou(Baytown)Humble,Frech,Angleton. [/i]  Pretty much all oilfield towns back then. Some players had the wife and their 3 kids there to cheer for them....

'74 Newton State Championship 3A team won the title game 56-0.

The '77 PN-G team should also be up there because it was undefeated going into the championship, which it lost 13-10 (not sure if that was the year with the #3 national ranking; that may have been the '75 team). It might also be a good idea to look at the PN-G teams from the 50s; three state championship appearances in a row doesn't happen often. The '99 team deserves some credit as well.

Baytown Sterling's1971 State  Finalist team would rank up there for me. Maybe not the most talented, but they found a way to win.
Too much 6th St and some MOJO was just too much to overcome in the finals.

Actually won a Regional Championship as Class B schools did not play state championship in those days.  But I get what you are saying they won their ultimate game that year.

Then in 98, we played horrible against a great sislbee team and lost first round. I believe we were number 2 in state behind LaMarque or Stephenville.

It's just amazing how geography can distort perception.  This gentleman is obviously from WO-S territory and remembers per his statement: ". . . we played horrible against a great Silsbee team and lost in the first round."  I was one of the broadcasters at that game for the Silsbee radio station.  Silsbee, indeed, played a great game - you have to to beat WO-S.  But I don't remember that WO-S played that horribly.  But then, I'm old and don't remember much anyway. 8)

Is your 1956 correct?  I ask because I was in football camp in the fall
of 1955 at Lamar Tech with an Ed Peveto from Orangefield.  I believe he went on to become quite a high school football coach.  Surely, there
were not two Ed Peveto's from Orangefield in those two years. ???

Oh yeah, we played probably one of our worst games in years. I'm not taking away Silsbee puting it to us, but If I could get the stats, we had more turnovers in that game, than the whole season combined. I want to say we had three touchdowns called back, could hold on to the football, and the weather was horrible. Took our speed away from us. Couldn't even kickoff without falling down in the mud. Trust me, I remember well.

I enjoyed the 87 and 88 Stangs as well as the 1993 Silsbee Tigers. That Silsbee team would went to state if Mcguire didn't get hurt on the sideline at the Alamo.
