Rangers Pound It in BP
8/5/2011 12:55:45 PM

The Rangers put on a show in BP, hitting significantly more balls out of the park and showing more collective bat speed than any other team thus far.

1B Austin Dean (Spring, TX) hit in the first group and set the tone, crushing the ball on almost every swing and knocking 3-4 balls over the left field fence.

SS Sheldon Neuse (2013, Fort Worth, TX) is quickly becoming one of my favorite 2013 players.  He was outstanding at the PG Junior National Showcase in mid-June and is an all around athlete who can play shortstop at a high level and throw 90+ off the mound.  He took an outstanding batting practice and showed top level bat speed with a easy tension free swing.

SS C.J. Hinojosa (Spring, TX) hit some balls onto the street beyond the left field fence, which is hardly a surprise.  When SS Gavin Cecchini (Lake Charles, LA) stepped in right after Hinojosa and did the same thing, that was a bit more of an eye opener.OF Courtney Hawkins (Corpus Christi, TX) has calmed down his swing a bit from earlier in the summer and the results showed; he peppered a ball off the RCF fence early in his round and had one come off the barrel at 107 mph (per the Trackman radar) later.  Hawkins lifted one well over the 387 sign in LCF in his last round...probably a 420' foot bomb.

C Stryker Trahan (Scott, LA) showed his power and bat speed, as usual.

One of the sleepers in the 2012 class for me is 3B Austin Aune (Argyle, TX), who has a sweet left handed swing with power.  His situation is complicated as he's a top quarterback prospect who is committed to play both sports at TCU.
