Do any of you Nederland fans have any stats on the running back Edwin Nelson? I think that is his name. Ran hurdles last spring. Is he a starter?

Chron.com shows him with 7 carries for 10 yds.
Benjamin is the starter.
(For what that's worth)

Thisun will be all about defense. BH might be well served to come in with a 4-2-5 matchup zone. Ned a 5-4-2 or 4-4-3 man coverage. From what I've read you slow Hill running game and force them to throw. Just opposite for Ned. Should be a goodun. So far just from strength of schedule alone Ned in a close one.

This will be the first time we will be 3-0 going into district play since the '07 season, I believe. BH is a very good football team, but i think we beat the bricks off 'em. Defense will bring the wood and our running game will shine (200+ yards rushing.) 35-14 Dogs, making us 3-0.

so let see  ;) you have gained 239 yards in two games and now your going to almost gain that in 1 game against the best rushing D that you have played all year???? We know WOS is fast, but I they have given up 52 point is two games!!!

Well going in to district 2-1 won't be too bad either ;D 8)

Yes I do. I believe we are going to bust it open this week and find ourselves on offense.

Unfortunately I think yall might have to wander around until next week to find yourselves on offense.  To me it looks like yall are doing quite well on O thus far.

200+ yards rushing aint gonna happen....yall might light us up for 300 through the air though  ;D

It might have been. I've tried to block that out of my memory. Haha. The '07 year was when we went 7-0 (beat brehnam after losing sampere in that game), got beat by PNG at home, and everything went downhill from there. didnt even make the playoffs that year. It might not be the 2007 year. I'm pretty sure it was, though. We started out red hot that year. Got flattened by PNG and never got back on track afterwards.

This is going to be a great game.  Got to believe both these teams will be playing in the playoffs.  Like a previous post said, this game will be about defense.  When playing a "wishbone" offense like Barbers Hill you HAVE TO STOP the dive up the middle and force the offense to beat you to the corners.  If Nederland can't stop the dive option up the middle it bodes well for the Eagles.  This will be the best team the Eagles have played and will test their defense.  Still don't know who I am picking in this one.  I think it might just come down to the last possesion.

Well it can happen, Micah Mosley went toe to toe with Mr. Johnson at Waller several years ago and when the dust settled there was around 900 total yards of offense!

If GCM scored 20 on Ned, and WOS scored 20 on Ned...Yes!  However...Carson Raines could give BH problems w/ his passing.  JMO

I was talking about WOS' defense, not Nederlands.  WOS lost two game by two points against tough teams.  Their defense is probably one of the toughest we will see until the playoffs. As I have said previously and a couple of other people have stated on this thread, Ned's defense will have to shut down the edges to go far this year. Thier offense is young but have made the plays that they have needed to to win.

    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
