Nederland had gotten better and their tourney last year had some good Houston area teams.

Maybe not in recent years, but they did in the late 80's/early 90's.

no-look Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Any one remember the HJ-Troup game at the Huntington tourney several years ago? That was a loaded tourney. State championship teams from Arkansas,Louisiana and OK. (if I remember right) Dont remember if the Troup-HJ game was in the finals or not...I have slept sinse then. But that was one of the best games that I have seen.....shot at the buzzer won the game. Cant remember who won.....any you HJ guys recall the game?.....I think Buna was in the tourney also.
Guest twag11 Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I've seen Kelly play the village multiple times they are alright usually but not to great.

One kid, who is a 6'9" SR verbally committed to Maryland, and another 6'8" JR to Pepperdine. Sounds like they are expected to be pretty good this year. Not many HS teams have that kind of size.

Village definately is not better than St Thomas i can tell you that.
BADSANTA Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Nederland Tourney will be very strong!

I think one kid may be their savior. The Village is okay from what I hear.

HJ hit a three pointer at the buzzer but was waived off by the ref (If i had known then what I know now about the Gestapo, I would have suspected foul play)
east texas bb Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 I got the VHS of that game. I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade and was at that game. I couldnt tell if it really should have counted or not, it was close (I watched it over and over and never was definite). The player banked it in from about half court. I believe it was the year HJ and Troup won State in 3A and 2A. Greg Austin was out with an injury for about 2 quarters and then came back like nothing had happened. He is one player that could have really done some things (he was a soph that year) and he let other things get in the way. About 6'6" and could play inside and out, he just couldnt get it together. The funniest thing on the tape is the coaches reactions after the end of game shot. The officials and coaches talked it over for about 10 mins before they finally stood by their ruling.
stevenash Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 HJ had won state the prior year and was trying to repeat but lost in the regional finals. Pretty sure that game was the final
east texas bb Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Yes, it was the finals of the Huntington tournament. I think Ken Loyd was running it then. He usually had teams from Oklahoma and Arkansas in it.

Spring Woods, SA Southwest are 5A. Sherman, Hype Park, McKinney North, Denison, WF Rider are 4A.I like the fact that Silsbee will get a minimum of 4 games after traveling all that distance(Sherman is just a few miles from Oklahoma border). (very good for this broadcaster who is making the trip)
BLUEDOVE3 Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Yall could have stayed closer to home to get blown out. :D
stevenash Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 I disagree. NOBODY, including the Panthers, from around here, will blow Silsbee out
