This is a tough one. Speed versus Discipline. Normally one would think speed makes up for talent, Ozen has talent and speed, deadly combination. However, Vidor has size, disciplined and well coached offense, tough to defend. I see Vidor keeping the ball out of the the speed and talented Ozen backs hand by long drives and a lot of clock chew. My prediction, Vidor 28-Ozen 24

All valid points Puddle.  Just to point out the other side of the coin, Ozen's speed enables them to score quickly if they are able to keep Vidor close they may be able to get a couple of quick scores even if Vidor has a large margin in Time of Possession.

I guess my question is how do you figure that Ozen is less disciplined than Vidor is?

What was wrong with the poll that the Vidorians made?
[/quote]
Thats the same question i'm asking. I'm guessing they didn't like the fact that we were leading in that poll so they started to make one of there own but it looks like it didn't work.  ;D  8)

Is Vidor disciplined because they are slow or is Ozen to fast to be disciplined, confusing?
However I think your a little bit wrong on both cases, both teams are well coached, have speed and are disciplined, this is a good match up with playoff implications and will come down to the wire, but I do like your prediction Vidor 24---- Ozen 21

Actually, if you go by two generally accepted measures of discipline, penalties and turnovers, you might have a hard time saying that Vidor is more disciplined.  Through 5 games, Ozen has been flagged 32 times for 271 yards and has turned the ball over 5 times.  Through 5 games, Vidor has been flagged 31 times for 250 yards and has turned the ball over 7 times.

As for team speed, Ozen might have a bit more speed, but Vidor is by no means devoid of it.  Quirante has some good speed as does Smallwood and Bolinger (if Coach Mathews lied to David Henry and he does indeed play on Friday).  Even Clark was some surprising speed.

So the big edges one way or the other, really don't play out as huge edges in reality.

Thanks for clearing that up for those who tend to forget what discipline is in terms of football.....I still say Ozen will take this one and that's my opinion.

You know the sad part is that when Powell is in the backfield as QB he is the fastest they got by a long shot.  The funny thing is that people havent figured that out yet.  Got to love media.  He is the only one on the defensive side that can run somebody down.  Yes it happenin the Ozen game last year also.  Let him get into the open field on offense and see what happens.  ::)

You've already seen them. The Katy Tigers. 22 penalties for 193 yards and the starting QB has yet to throw a pic through 5 games.

    • Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem.  Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253   For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.
    • I don't think it's 6-5 maybe 4-3
    • Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.
