LP0175 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I've been hearing a lot of clamour about LM's probable move to the 3A level. I've been looking and district 29-3A looks most likely. Travel wise it makes the most sense with Palacios being the furthest drive at 2hrs.How does a 3A LM world look?
Purple Runs Deep Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Good news for 4A....Bad news for 3A
Purple Runs Deep Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Yep...from what it sounds like CS aint seen any this year.
LP0175 Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 I'm an idiot, a move to 29-3A would put LM into region 4...didn't give it thought before I posted. Well that would make for interesting region 4. I'll have to go look at the successful 3A teams in that rebion...I'm thinking off bat Cuero and maybe Giddings, Gonzales is undefeated this year. CC-Miller is one as well.
BMTSoulja1 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Should we throw a parade or let some balloons off or something? Fact of the matter is that LaMarque will continue to play 4a teams in non-district and continue to beat the breaks off of them, so not much will change, IMO.
WOSgrad Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 La Marque turned in 741, so a move to 3A is just about certain this time. It does look like 29-3A would be the most logical place for them given the current landscape, but with a new alignment coming in February, you never know.
AggiesAreWe Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I look at this way, unless something drastically happens over there at LaMarque to stop the drop in enrollment, 3A will not have to worry about them for very long. ;) In four years time, LaMarque has dropped from 1200 to now 741. At that rate they will only be 3A for just these next two years, then down to 2A.I also believe that with this dramatic drop in enrollment, the talent level will drop as well.LaMarque has some bigger issues over there that has nothing to do with sports. School district is rated unacceptable and seems to be a lot of internal problems as well. Losing almost 500 students (just over a third of the enrollment) in just 4-5 years, is very alarming and that is not a good thing, even though it drops them in classification.
liltex Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Uil may make a new 3a dist w/the metro houston 4a teams w/3a numbers.
songone Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 LaMarque might be a little hard to deal w/ on that level! Right now they have 34 killers suiting up every Friday against 55-70 opponents across the field. In a very, very tough District.
Guest octfeb Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Question... If they are dropped to 3A cant they opt. to stay in 4A?
bronco pride Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011
Question... If they are dropped to 3A cant they opt. to stay in 4A?
no its goes strictly by enrollment
BADSANTA Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 My old college buddy teaches there and said since he has been there, over 300 kids have transferred from La Marque to private schools, Texas City and other South Houston schools. The average GPA is 2.5 on 4.0 scale. Drop out rate is higher than any school in the Houston Area. Some of their best teachers have also either retired or transferred as well. Wild!

Many schools (several HISD) have been doing this for many years. An El Paso area school has had 3A numbers for 12 years, and they have opted to stay 5A due to travel.

Lm made the playoffs for the first time in like 3 years last year and made the most of it but they are not going to be the powerhouse they usef to be in 4a with the enrollment numbers going down so far.

AggiesAreWe Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Unless HISD forces the 5-6 schools with 3A numbers to go down to 3A, I see LaMarque being put in a 3A district in Region IV. If those HISD schools do drop down, then LaMarque could be put in that district and remain in Region III.
bronco pride Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Wow looking through dc and kashmere and jones are the 2 smallest 4a schools in the state wonder why they stay 4a
AggiesAreWe Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011
Wow looking through dc and kashmere and jones are the 2 smallest 4a schools in the state wonder why they stay 4a
Because it keeps them in a local HISD district. Otherwise they would have to travel way out side Houston to be in a 3A district.
Guest octfeb Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 If LaMarque decided to stay 4A, would they be able to drop back to 3A in the next realignment if they chose to? :-\

When the next realignment comes (2014) if LaMarque were to still have 3A numbers, they can still opt to stay up or go down where their enrollment puts them.

That will be interesting to see. If they chose to stay 4A. And they don't play so well in 4A. If they chose to drop in the next realignment to 3A to better their chances of another state run.
kicker Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Actually guys, lamarque had the opportunity to drop at last alignment according to one of their coaches, but decided to stay in 4a due to travel. He told me that there is enough 3a number schools in Houston to make a 3a district now. And secondly, what do we have to do to get away from those guys....geez...lol.

Their enrollment for last realignment was 996, cut off was 990.Like I said, LaMarque will probably have to go Region IV if they decide to go down to 3A, unless those 5-6 HISD schools finally decide to drop down to 3A.
