Actually guys, lamarque had the opportunity to drop at last alignment according to one of their coaches, but decided to stay in 4a due to travel. He told me that there is enough 3a number schools in Houston to make a 3a district now. And secondly, what do we have to do to get away from those guys....geez...lolt

Wrong. Their enrollment for last realignment was 996, cut off was 990.

Like I said, LaMarque will probably have to go Region IV if they decide to go down to 3A, unless those 5-6 HISD schools finally decide to drop down to 3A.

That's just what he told me. Probably misunderstood him. 6 kids is close though. Isn't it true that you can play in any division no matter how many kids you have, as long as you play up?

Correct. Any school can opt to play up in any classification. You just cannot play down a class. I believe there are actually 2 schools playing 5A that have 3A numbers.

Making a new 3A district for the Houston area would be the most logical solution but we are talking about the UIL.
[/quote]

Well, that is not completely on the UIL.  If HISD again opts those schools up into 4A, there is not a whole lot the UIL can do about it

What would be smart for uil is to make a 6a and somehow combine 3a and 4a. In my opinion, not a whole lot of difference. Talking about numbers, not talent. Basically, 4a would have a wider spectrum in enrollment so it would be like 3a anyway because you still keep 5a. Just adding another class for those schools that hqve more kids than most colleges. Lol.

I look at this way, unless something drastically happens over there at LaMarque to stop the drop in enrollment, 3A will not have to worry about them for very long.  ;) In four years time, LaMarque has dropped from 1200 to now 741. At that rate they will only be 3A for just these next two years, then down to 2A.

I also believe that with this dramatic drop in enrollment, the talent level will drop as well.

LaMarque has some bigger issues over there that has nothing to do with sports. School district is rated unacceptable and seems to be a lot of internal problems as well.

Losing almost 500 students (just over a third of the enrollment) in just 4-5 years, is very alarming and that is not a good thing, even though it drops them in classification.

The problem is not LMISD. The problem is with the City of La Marque. The city is not growing and there is not any economic development on the horizon. The boundaries make it impossible to build new sub divisions and collect taxes. For example, there are several citizens like myself who reside inside the city limits but our tax dollars to go either Santa Fe, Dickinson, or Hitchcock.

I assume Kicker that your advocating a wider spread for 3A enrollment in a 6A scenario which would combine about half of 4A with 3A. Say something like
3A= 501 - 1400
4A= 1401 - 2300
5A= 2301 - 3300
6A= 3301+

That would take the following locals down as such
Could have PAM and WB down at 4A
4A to 3A
LCM
Ozen
Liv
Lumberton
With PNG, Vidor and Nederland right on the cusp.

How is there no difference in 3a and 4a.. If you have schools with 500 to 600 enrollment competing against schools in between 1200 and 1400.. thats a difference.. Coachs develop talent and players.. bigger school have more players to develop.. cant disagree more with your statement... classifications are their for a reason

The cutoff for 3a right now is 990, however 3a is still spread out with teams of around 450 playing schools twice thier enrollment.

Correct. But not three times their enrollment and that would happen with a 500 enrollment playing 1400 enrollments.

That's quite a gap. Most classifications now run up to double the size of the smallest schools in that class, even 4A goes from 991 to right around 2100.

I know and I dont agree with doing that. You will put small schools at a huge disadvantage. I was

    • That should tell everyone something pretty clearly. Does anyone really think BH is recruiting elementary kids, to get them to transfer in Jr. high? Seriously? Here is the "dirty little secret" about BH: Most people move to the district for a quality living environment to raise their young family, and benefit from the outstanding acedemics at BH. Even If all athlectics suddenly disappeared from BH, people would still want their kids in the district. If thats not enough to convince anyone, and BH really was determined to recruit, first step would be to have open enrollemnt. It is closed.        Yes, I get it, no one ever wants to give BH the benefit of the doubt on anything. Some of the accusations are beyond ridiculous though. This paranoia the BH critics are afflicted with is not just sad, its flat out laughable.
    • Opting is always an option. Are they considering any BC assistants? Highly qualified after that season they put up.
    • Be that as it may, only time will tell. Hide and watch. Don’t be surprised if the next HC hire uses his own recipe. That happens more than not historically. I am not arguing the point that Hooks & CT had a winning combination that could’ve been carried over. I’m saying that finding someone to do that is not going to be as easy as one might think. Tell me again why Saban’s replacement, who even has Saban’s assistance if he wants it, just lost another game to an unranked team and has taken the Tide out of playoff contention? Why wouldn’t he just follow the success of possibly the greatest college football coach ever lived?
    • We've acknowledged having 2 HOF coaches hasn't been like most other schools. So why everyone jumps to the conclusion it wouldn't work here is beyond my comprehension. I see it carry over with these other hires. Gilmer, Aledo, North Shore, Austin Westlake. Next man up that continues the system in place has instant success. Matter fact there was 2 rookie HC that won the state championship the same year we handed over the keys. Same book. Same recipe. Better ingredients.
