Excerpt on the managers from the Chron:

This World Series is an interesting matchup of managers. Tony La Russa is one of the best ever, a veteran of 5,096 regular-season games and a lock for the Hall of Fame.

When Washington is asked about La Russa, he says, “I can’t win a chess match with Tony.”

“I’m like a player,” Washington said. “I’m still a novice at managing, but I think I’m beginning to understand. One thing I do know how to do is communicate, and that’s communicate the baseball game. I’ve been blessed to do that, and I cherish the opportunity that I have to be a manager, and I hope it lasts for a long time. But you never know.”
