daddy23 Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 I have an office in Lake Charles. Some of my friends there in Louisiana have enjoyed asking about the VHS football season since they know that I follow the team.On Friday night, they were passed by our buses on the way to the game in BMT (they happened to be passing through to Houston). And they were shocked to see the police escort. This brings me to the question. How many teams in Southeast Texas travel with some sort of Police Escort on Friday nights? I have always seen the police escort on Friday nights (since I was a kid) and just assumed that every team traveled this way. I would guess that most Rural Schools in Texas travel with escorts on Friday night.I have no deep issue here to address. I am just curious as to how widespread the practice is in Southeast Texas.
GoDogs27 Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 I think one travels with the Nederland band/westernaires/cheerleaders, but I think it's just the rent-a-cop from the high school. He's an actual Nederland cop though with a real car. I don't think the football team has an escort. We didn't when imposter a few years ago.

WOSgrad Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 West Orange-Stark used to. I am not sure if they do now.

bh89-2 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011
Dayton does.
Well yeah! That's because none of the bus drivers have been out of Liberty County. ;D ;D
dawgnut Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I don't remember the teams, but when I was young there was several instances of people messing with the buses so most of the local teams started having escorts. Some folks think it is fun harassing the buses but we know from the Beaumont incident several years ago bad things can happen real quick.
MEM Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans do also...Always thought it looked cool when the escort(s) pulls into a intersection with lights flashing and lets the team buses go thru...
LP0175 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 LP Chatos and band does. Football team does when traveling to Deer Park. Plenty of bus incidents there.
dog 67 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I remember several years ago being at a playoff game in Houston when they had the black cooking trailer and loud game music going and all of the Nederland kids pulling up in Sun travel buses 7 or 8 ,and the other team standing there with mouths open as we gathered around the bus when the players got off. I call than intimadation of the first kind,it puts a mind set in the other team. of course this was escourted by police front and rear
daddy23 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I thought it was pretty standard, but I really didn't know for sure.
LilBobcatMom Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I graduated in 1986 (shut up) from Friendswood. We had police escorts when we played Santa Fe. I'm not sure about the other out-of-town games.

Someone had to guard those horse-drawn buses.
invictus Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I know that Vidor does and I don't know of any school that hasn't had one coming to Vidor for as long as I can remember.
