walk_the_plank Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Just was informed that Vidor will be pulling several players from the JV to play on Friday. It looks like we are trying to get healthy for the playoffs. Looks like Livingston just got an early Christmas present.
Guest Pirate_pride_07 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 They always do that and they are not doing it for the Livingston game. They are doing it for playoffs. They did it in 09 so don't be so surprised.
walk_the_plank Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 Got my infomation from a JV player who got a text saying this was going to happen for Friday..He is on the phone trying to figure all this out..Just an uncle listening to his nephew. I would be really suprised if the starters play more than a series. Don't really know though.
pirate68 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I would be very surprised if the 2 way starters played both ways in this game...We have some others that are a little banged up that I wouldn't mind seeing with the week off to get healthy for the playoffs.
Guest Pirate_pride_07 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 The starters will play more than a series i guarantee you that. The starters will play the half and then maybe more than likely the coaches will start working in the JV players an probably by the last two minutes of the game there will be more jv than varsity on the field. thats it.
liltex Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 All this rest talk making me uneasy on da pic-ems ;D

PNG Proud Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Most teams bring their JV up when they make the playoffs. It allows those underclassmen to practice a few more weeks and get the feel of the playoff atmosphere. Good move.

Mr. E Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 no way the starters will only play one series... they will make it at least till the half
puddleofmudd Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Coaches will always do what's best for the team. No one plays to lose. I see a good Vidor and a Livingston Team that can be dangerous. It's all or nothing for the Lions, I really don't see this game even close.
badndn Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 If Vidor tanks the game and looses a second game in a row, then Matthews has lost it. You can not go into the playoffs on a two game skid! It will resonate into the first round...Bringing JV players up is normal just before playoffs. However I can see how this would be big news to someone from Vidor! ;DAllright, Allright I couldn't resist. It is good practice. One reason why alot of top teams remain top teams in the state is because they get the next class extra reps for 3 to 6 weeks each year. It makes a big difference in sustaining a good program.
Zoneblock Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 resting players when you are ahead is one thing but to rest them when you are going into the play-offs is insanity. why take a loss go into the play-offs riding a W
QueenPirate Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Yeah knowing Mathews, I do not see him just sitting back and watching the game set sail knowing you are going to lose. I am pretty positive though that Bolinger will only play a few snaps so he can rest another week for the playoffs. We Pirates have way too much pride in us to allow us to lose 2 games in a row and I agree, who wants to go into the playoffs when you lost the 2 previous games?? LOL
bulldog16 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 With the style of offenses these 2 teams run, both out of the run oriented slot t, you better get there early because the game may be over with by 8:30 :) Look for a very quick game time wise....

vidor96pirates Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 If they win...an 8-2 record would be on the best records they have ever had. I don't see them passing that up.

That night may very well be the last time some of our seniors ever play on that field again. Do they want that memory to be a loosing game?

texas2step4u Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 The 77-78 team went 8-2 and made the playoffs. Back then only the top team from district went. Got blown out in the Dome in the first round of the playoffs, as I recall.
Bigdog Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Correct. The next time Vidor was in the playoffs was in 2000. They had a 4-7 record, 4-1 in district.

Bigdog Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Yeah, you lost by 1 point but ran into Ned twice that season. You had a pretty tough non-district, Pasadena Rayburn, Ned, PNG , Conroe Oakridge, and BC
